Pipe tobacco without a pipe

I love the smell of pipe tobacco but I don’t want to have to smoke a pipe to smell it. I asked the owner of a tobacco store today about rolling cigarettes with pipe tobacco but he said it didn’t burn well. When I asked him if there were any finely-cut brands that would burn better, he said he didn’t know of any. So what should I do?

(I know there are some “pipe tobacco cigars” like “Black and Mild” but those are cheap junk, I want the real stuff.)

Not only it doesn’t burn well (but not to the point that it would be difficult to smoke a cigarette made with pipe tobacco), but more importantly it doesn’t have the same taste, for some reason.

(I’m an occsionnal pipe smoker, and sometimes when I run out of cigarettes but don’t feel like smoking a pipe, I roll one with pipe tobacco)

Could I smoke pipe tobacco with a regular pipe, or would I need to buy a real wooden “pipe?”

At the risk of mentioning illegal behavior I’ll leave it at that.

What about a water pipe (without hot water).

Back when I smoked, sometimes I rolled pipe-tobacco cigarettes. They stayed lit better than the same tobacco in a pipe. Unlike a pipe, I didn’t have to puff up a storm just to get it lit. I also got some double takes from folks who saw me with an illegal-looking cigaratte.

This is probably not what you’re looking for, but I roll lickies with Drum, a Dutch tobacco. It’s a moist shag (sundried as far as I know, and clean as far as chemicals and additives go), doesn’t have the strong sweet scent of pipe tobaccos but I find the smell and taste much more satisfying than regular cigarettes.

You could, I suppose, buy pipe tobacco and process it further yourself. Not sure how you’d do that … scissors would take a while. Perhaps try throwing some in a cheap coffee grinder until it is fine enough to roll by hand?

You might wanna consider a large, decorative water pipe (hookah). You use charcoal to “burn” the tobacco substance, and could probably fill your home with aroma without taking a hit.

I’m a huge fan of pipe tobacco, but I don’t smoke. So I burn it like incense.

Ingredients:
small ceramic bowl
sand
charcoal disks (I use the 40mm)
tobacco

Fill the bowl with sand. Light the charcoal, put it on the sand, and drop some tobacco on the charcoal. It makes my apartment smell awesome.

I’ve also found that rolling it in cigarettes works better than you’d think. I actually found that easier to keep lit than a wooden pipe. (this was before I figured out the charcoal. I can’t inhale, thick smoke kicks off my asthma. Plus I really don’t care for the taste, just the smell)
