Pit Bulls: I Need To Know Something

… that this has been an educational thread and not one that would hurt anyone’s feelings.

IF I gave the impression I am against this dog, I didn’t mean to.

Sometimes, to get a passionate answer, I will play “devil’s advocate” (old habit from my broadcasting days, please excuse me?).

All I wanted (and what y’all gave me) was a way to understand what is going on with this dog.

As I stated, I’m an animal welfare advocate, and, in order to advocate this dog, I needed to ask your thoughts, because this is where I come to get answers.

So what is my conclusion?

I believe this dog is a good animal who ran into some bastard humans who bred them to fight other dogs. I also believe they respond to what they consider “aggression” towards them - like any other animal would.

I admit to still not knowing why they attack humans, but as with any animal, they deserve our respect so that we can “bond”. (I let both dogs and cats smell me before I pet them)

The “good” still remains, as long as it is reinforced by a caring owner, and the fight instinct isn’t awakened by what the dog considers “agression”.

I also believe that this caring owner has a hell of a job. Not only does this owner need to keep in mind what has gone before, they also need to protect their pet from adverse publicity.

As I said: A HELL of a job for y’all, but I thank you for taking one of the 4-footers into your family!
