Pit rules:
-
I don’t want anyone posting that they’re simply in the thread to watch the fireworks. This means no posts like “::pulls up a lawn chair::”
-
No post parodies without links in the original post. Otherwise, I’m likely to close and/or delete the thread, and get royally pissed off at the thread starter.
-
Absolutely no hate speech.
More rules to come as I find that they’re needed.
Uncle Beer has kindly come up with some rules about joke threads in the Pit. I like them.
- No fake pittings. If you pit someone, you’re supposed to mean it. This doesn’t mean the pitting can’t be funny.
- No pit threads specifically for telling jokes, e.g. “Tell me your favorite dirty joke,” “Dead Baby jokes,” “racial and ethnic slurs disguised as jokes,” etc.
- No pit threads specifically to expand one’s repertoire of insults.
- Some of the more outrageous parodies have generated great confusion. Therefore, they must contain, at minimum, a link to the subject being parodied, or an explicit statement that the following material is a parody.
If the ONLY reason you are here on the SDMB is to complain about the message board, the way it’s run, the staff, or other posters, this is a violation of the “Don’t Be A Jerk” rule. I would think that this is self-evident, but apparently it’s not. So if your posts are ONLY bitching about the board, the staff, or other posters, don’t be surprised if you are banned without warning.
I really, REALLY don’t want to see joke threads in the Pit. ANY joke threads. If the jokes are too nasty for MPSIMS, then they’re too nasty for the Straight Dope Message Board.
Don’t post addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, or other methods of contact in order to facilitate campaigns for or against an issue. For instance, if you are outraged by a school principal’s actions against a student, DO NOT POST either the student’s OR the principal’s address, phone number, etc., even if the information is publically available. Do not urge other people to look up such information and contact the subjects, either. This has always been our policy all over the SDMB, but apparently some people don’t know about it, or don’t think it applies in the Pit. It does.
