Well…we can say all shootings are equivalent. In which case we should all complain about soldiers shooting at each other.
Or, we can distinguish ten year old kids getting shot while in school from gang violence.
Hmm, it’s been almost 30 minutes and there still isn’t a thread about all the killings in Chicago . . . it’s almost like those deaths are just a fun “gotcha” for D_Anconia as opposed to something he actually gives even one fuck about.

I do not think gang violence is equivalent to 10 year-olds getting shot while in school.
There is a sense that gang members choose that lifestyle and willfully engage in violence against each other. It is a problem but it is not remotely the same as little kids getting shot only because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
A guy whose username implies he thinks it’s virtuous to give zero fucks about anyone except himself and (maybe) his immediate family, but only if they are worthy.

Wrong. Very wrong. Lots of non gang members get shot and killed in the crossfire, including small children.

From the early reports, it was mostly adults shot. Still, they were in the neighborhoods where my family and I grew up in.

Well, among other things, several US cities have started reviving 1990s-era community initiatives against inner-city crime that were found to be significantly effective.
Of course, there are always some shortsighted reactionaries who bitch and moan that they don’t want taxpayer money being used for such purposes.

Boy, if only I was an American and had a real good idea about the kind of folks that complain about “midnight basketball” and only seemed to care about murder Chicago . . . oh wait, I am and I do.
Those dogwhistles are just too obvious.
They aren’t mutually exclusive, of course. We have proven over and over again in this society that we can’t deal with systemic social problems by just scolding the communities involved about their alleged personal moral failings. (See also: opioid addiction and related crime in rural white communities.)
Of course, plenty of conservatives keep on insisting that that’s the approach we should take, because it works out cheaper for them personally (as long as they’re sufficiently geographically distant from the communities in question).
