I have just a few things to say about pitts…I WAS deathly afraid of pitts until my son came home with a pup and let me tell you i would be lost without them… A few things about pitts that people seem to forget about is, A) They were/are used for herding some animals. B) They are (just as with any other dog) just as mean as you raise them to be. C) The main reason they are/were called “Pitt Bulls” is because they were put into pits and trained to herd “bulls”. And as for their bites…yes they do have strong jaws but no they can not go thru a chain linked fence(unless its a very thin one). Now as for “locking their jaws”… yes they do lock but its not because thats what they want to do… its just as if we clamped our teeth together. The difference is we know to open our mouthes and our molars dont get stuck together…If a provoked pitt bites someone and they are shaking their heads and pulling back its because they are just as scared as you are because they have no idea what is going on with them and why they cant open their mouthes… As for being such a bad dog… our pitts are the most friendly dogs I have ever seen, infact i dont think I have ever met a mean, evil pitt… I have met people who want a mean pitt or want to teach their pitt to attack on command, but why??? To fill society’s ego for being correct about the breed and to have the breed banned form every city and town within our state. Well guess what… The ones of you who have NEVER even met a pitt bull dont go around saying they are bad dogs because for the ones of us who are not raising our dogs to bite, fight, or even bark at other dogs are the ones who are/will pay for it when our dogs(who are a part of our families) are banned and have to be removed from our homes…So as far as I am concerned, If you dont know a dog or a certain breed, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE for the sake of all the “good” dogs… give a dog a chance and dont base all pitts on things other pitts do… You might as well hate all people because one or more people have done you or someone you love wrong. And please do not provoke any breed of dog either it be a lab or a pitt or shepherds.
Irony…the Google ad that says “Make a Killing Breeding Dogs!”
FTR, I agree with you! Any dog can be dangerous if it’s not raised properly. My family has a pit bull/rotty cross and we love him to pieces, he’s never been aggressive toward anyone (except madly barking at the mailman) in his 11 years. When I was a kid we had a miniature poodle who was more vicious than our current 90-pound lap dog. I guess she was overcompensating, lol.
I love pit bulls too, but their jaws do not lock.
