The description of the study did nothing more than trigger an interest in it. That is all I attempted to do here was start an exploratory conversation.
No. It triggered your dumb-as-dirt instinct to come here and shit on everything.
If it triggered a genuine interest, you would have read the fucking paper it was describing.
Trollio, trollio, troll-a-loll-lolly.
Just asking questions, were you?
Beat me to it by thaaaat much (holds fingers close together)
If you would have read my reply there I did not have access to the full paper without belonging to an approved organization or university.
Not come across a journal aggregator that didn’t allow pay-per-view, yet.
Guess you weren’t interested enough.
Could you tell me more about this? When I attempted to enter it simply opened a bx for me to identify an organization or university that would allow me access.
Here’s how I would have started that thread, if I knew nothing about the subject:
“Hey, I just read a study abstract that says X. I don’t have access to the full study, and I’m not a biologist. Does X imply Y? If not, can someone with more knowledge explain why?”
Then, when you’re told why it doesn’t:
“Wow! My intuition was steering me in completely the wrong direction. Thanks for the info!”
Sure. You see, what you do is, you log onto jstor.org, and then you …
Fuck. Off. Troll.
I will concede you are correct on this and I have resigned myself to improve here.
Science bitches, do you science it?
I didn’t respond to this right away because I wanted to think about it a bit. Citing would have made things a lot easier. I have always been under the impression, (possibly the wrong impression) That my humble opinion was a place you could carry out a speculative type of discussion because the burden of factualness was not held to the same standard. Many times, in discussion on things I may start off pretty rough but gradually home in as it progresses. I felt in good conscious that the topic is a viable topic, I still do simply because of the amount of study being done on exactly what I was alluding to. I was more interested in the implications of these studies more than the actual studies, but I felt the need to first establish some validity to the topic while not expressing and particular knowledge. I will take your advice seriously on any future threads. Maybe a suggestion from you on this. In the trucking industry I always had a rule anytime a truck was looked at that we fulfilled 3 things, Complaint, Cause and Correction, what would be the things to be fulfilled in an opening thread post?
For something you know basically nothing about? I would say the three things are humility, open-mindedness, and clarity.
“Hey, I have this cite that says that <something weird about semen and brains>. Is there anything to this? I don’t know much about biology. Here’s the page: <bizarre cite>. Thanks in advance! I look forward to better understanding.”
Responses: No, that’s not a good cite, it’s anti-women pseudoscience. In reality, your brain and your balls aren’t especially connected and there’s no way for your brain to pick up individual sperm to be successful.
“Ah, man, was I off-base about that. Thanks so much for clearing that up.”
I actually learnt a bunch of things in this thread, so particular thanks to @MrDibble - high school biology never taught me about the various barriers, and I never thought beyond the blood/brain one. The blood/eye barrier now interests me and I’ll do some reading on it.
The blood/ follicle barrier mentiioned above may just be a little beyond my comprehension.
Yeah, as it happens, we’re ugly bags of mostly water. Only, we want to keep this water separate from that water. And that occurs across multiple scales. Even our cells are surrounded by a lipid bylayer that is impermeable to water, even though most of our internal chemistry (including a lot of what happens inside those cells) needs water.
Ok. I’m just gonna say it. Your idea is creepy. Your theories are creepy. Bordering on “Me big man, big dick, big sperm” “You little weak woman, no say in this, I rape you, I feel big and tough, my swimmers make me some tough babies, just like me” Hoo Rah!!
Just stop. Just shut up about it. And don’t bring it up again. No one wants to hear your crack pot, creepy mc-creepmiester theory.
HBDC recently posted how he left school after 8th grade, IIRC. (So did my maternal grandfather when he had to go to work to help feed the family, for the record.) He seems like a guy with some brains, but missed out on a whole lot of book learning where he might have picked up the basics in the sciences. Trying to learn this stuff with no grounding in the basics seems to have left him with only his imagination and a haze of pot smoke to tell him what he wants to hear.
Either that post from HDBC is a lie or this post from HDBC is a lie.
Oy - It’s quite possible I completely misread something he wrote. (seems to happen more and more nowadays)
No he definitely said 8th grade. I read that too
