It strikes me as funny that Muslims rarely seem to acknowledge Western liberal tolerance for their lifestyle. If they do, they see such efforts as condescending. Can’t please everybody.

Well, if you’re treating liberal tolerance as some kind of special concession that “Westerners” are generously making to Muslims, rather than as an unremarkable necessary consequence of the freedom of religion that our civil-libertarian principles require for all religions, then that is kind of condescending.
What “tolerance” for what “lifestyle”?
They eat and drink and sleep… They get married and raise their children. They go to school to get educations and then get jobs to support themselves.
They worship on Friday instead of Sunday or Saturday, but that hardly seems to be a serious issue. They do fast during daylight hour of Ramadan, but they do not impose their fasting on neighbors or co-workers.
What part of their “lifestyle” are we supposed to “tolerate”? Where did this question come from?
They gave us algebra. Reason enough not to trust them.
Thank you for this … Mennonites, Amish, True Inspirationalists, Rastafarians … The principle involved is that it is a sin to dress up sexy and promote thoughts of adultery thus leading others into temptation. This goes along with modesty of clothing, not wearing the garb of the other sex and several other provisions in The Bible.

Judging from just this thread, there was a lot of discussion about head wear, which is not a typical style of Westerners. Note I said “typical.” Yes, your aunt June always wears a head wrap to cover her curlers, but not every Western woman does that. It’s optional rather than mandatory among non-Muslims.
If you recall, France actually banned veils in schools, which after all was said and done, only affected about 800 students. That’s why I used the term “tolerance” as opposed to “acceptance,” as it didn’t apply to Muslim women outside of schools. France went on to ban full facial coverings, but clarified the law applied to all regardless of religion or gender. Again, “tolerance” because there’s no state of complete acceptance.
So the tolerance for their lifestyle is simply the outlawing of some head coverings? Good toleration, that.
