Pitting the Dems, (My side)

I need to pit my team, The democrats. We have seen pits of Americans for Jobs,Healthcare, and Progressive values. This was the group responsible for the ads that linked Dean to Bin Laudin that ran in Iowa and some of the early primary states. What we didn’t know before was who these people were.Because they were not working for any particular candidate they didn’t have to follow campaign finance reform laws, and they spent lots.

It is starting to come out who these people were.Robert Torricelli, a leading fundraiser for Kerry donated 50,000. One of Dick Gephardts best friends from childhood was part of this group. I am having trouble finding a good link for a print version of an article i heard yesterday on NPR.

Honest to Christmas guys. Haven’t four years of “The ends justify the means politics” done anything. What the hell were you thinking. I understand that you didn’t believe Dean could beat Bush, but those ads were the ugliest most dissengenous things i have seen since Ann Coulter. I will still vote for anyone that isn’t Bush, but Dammit, why do you have to make me hold my nose to do it. (sorry I am not good at ranting)

Are you sure such an ad ran in Iowa. I thought I was pretty attentive and I sure did not see anything like that on any of the TV stations that serve eastern Iowa.

This doesn’t surprise me at all. I had to laugh when I saw people on this board claiming the post-Iowa media thrashing of Dean meant the media are all biased in favor of Bush (not noticing all the hype over Kerry’s “electability” apparently). Dean probably would be the nominee if he hadn’t surged ahead so early and caught the worst of the attacks from his own side.

While I was not a big fan of Dean, he does seem impassioned. Kerry talks good, but he acts as though he doesn’t mean it. That’s just my opinion, folks, please do not ask for a cite. mmm’kay!

Agreed. Dean’s seeming sincerity and strong convictions would have made him far more appealing as a nominee than Kerry. I think that if Dems were voting for who they really like, Dean would still be the favorite. People are just setting aside their likes for the “electability” stuff. I think that the only reason Dean seems unelectable is because he was scrutinized far more harshly than any of the other candidates. Kerry has had it far easier than Dean because, as it gets down to the wire, the other candidates are now thinking they need to avoid divisive tactics. Too bad that Dean didn’t see it coming and pace himself better.

elucidator, my friend, here is where you have to run up the marionette’s strings and finger the Gepetto. Go get 'em!

Finger? Bah. I’ll take care of this.

Incidentally, I think that it’s probably no coincidence that Nader decided to run right as Dean was leaving the race. A lot of Deaniacs seem to feel betrayed by the Democratic party due to antics like the OP described. If Nader can grab the disgruntled Deaniacs, it might be the swift kick to the rear that the DNC needs in order to listen more to that wing of the party in '06 and '08.
