Pittsburgh '70s Horror Show

Man! This brings back some memories!

I remember watching all of these shows when I was a kid. Paul Shannon’s Adventure Time, Willy the Duck, Cap’n Bill, Chiller Theater… Do you guys remember “Bowling For Dollars” with Nick Perry, too?

Good times…

Huh. When was that on? I don’t remember Science Fiction Theater, and I was (and still am to a degree) a big Sci-Fi nerd. I well remember the music from Forbidden Planet, as I played with it quite a bit in an audio mixing experiment. Pretty much iconic Sci-Fi music. It’s hard to believe a theremin was not used in it at all, as you’d think that would be the go-to instrument.

As long as we’re talking themes, the theme to Chiller Theater was Experiment in Terror, Al Caiola’s version. Just throwing it out there, since it brings back so many memories of Jiffy-Pop popcorn and watching horror movies with my dad. I still need to pick up a copy of *Gargoyles*sometime, a movie I saw on Chiller that I remember to this day.

I vaguely remember Scream-In, because Tarantula was kinda scary and weird to my young self.

Well doggone, thanks muchly for the answers on both counts! I was secretly worried that I’d been flat-out hallucinating the memory of that duck all these years.

Anyone remember Chilly Willy singing “O Tannebaum” to Bill Tannehill? “O Tannehill…O Tannehill…”

Good memories.

In Philly, during the 70s we had Doctor Shock. His show was on Saturday nights and I think it might have been called The Horror Show. I remember late in the 70s he was moved to Saturday mornings, but he was often preempted by sports, which spelled the end for his show. I think it was on WPHL. Not sure if that was broadcast state wide or if it was just a local Philly show.

It was called, " The World Beyond Adventure"

Yes I remember “Scream-In” I used to watch it when I was about 7 or 8 years old.

Anyone remember “Thing Theater” with the host named Scorpio? It used to come on at 1 pm on Saturdays on WPGH TV 53

Any one remember “Shock It To Me Theater” which ran in the late 60’s early 70’s? I don’t quite remember for sure what station it was on, but it had to be a Pittsburgh station or a nearby state like West Virginia or Ohio because I remember we had to adjust the antenna in order to get it in clear. It came on Saturday evenings if I remember correctly.

It was called, “The World Beyond Adventure”

Is there a listing of the movies they showed? I remember watching one where a scientist mutates a young woman ( has an enormous head) and the movie ends with her carrying the scientist/doctor and jumping into a moat surrounding the lab filled with crocodiles – killing them both! I’d love to know the bane of this movie ! Anybody know it? It has stayed in my brain for over 30 years now! Thanks!

My aunt was on “Bowling For Dollars”, so I got to meet Nick Perry (pre-lottery scandal, of course). I also got to see Paul Long and Don Cannon leaving the building as we were entering. so that was kinda neat for a 10 year old.

How about Monster Chiller Horror Theater?

I realize that this is an old thread but found it while looking for a movie short today. Might the name of the series have been The World Beyond? I remember watching both Science Fiction Theatre and The World Beyond growing up on Saturday afternoons.

I couldn’t find anything about The World Beyond Series online. I searched Science Fiction Theatre and couldn’t find the particular episode that I was after, so it must have been on The World Beyond. This was a short film about a family (mother, father, son) in an accident and the father/son turn out to be dopplegangers. The mother eventually overcomes her misgivings about them and says something to the effect “Oh, I’ve been such a silly billy.” I believe it was set in the UK. At the end father/son smile and reveal rotted teeth, so the audience knows that they are in fact dopplegangers. Might this sound familiar or would anyone happen to know the title? I’m guessing that it was probably produced in the 60/70’s.
