Pittsburgh Area Dopers: Museum anyone?

I was wondering if any Pittsburgh area members would like to meet up for a reduced price visit to any of the Carnegie museums- the Art, Natural History, Science Center or the Andy Warhol. I can get 3 people in with me at a seriously reduced price, and it would be a great way for me to meet some of you.

I’m tired of being a Hermit, and would like to meet some new people. So, if you’re game, I can meet you and get you in to see any one or all of the museums, on whatever days work for you. This is not just a one day offer. Just post to me here or by PM and we can make arrangements.

Come see the museums with me!

If its a Saturday or such, I could be talked into it. And I wouldn’t even really need the reduced thingy if we can get enough folks interested. Haven’t done the Carnegie in Oakland in ages.

I don’t live in Pittsburgh, so wouldn’t be able to accept your offer, but I just had to pop in to mention how totally awesome the Carnegie Science Center is. One of my favorite Science Centers anywhere, and I’ve been to my share.

If you all are doing The Carnegie, I’ll hook up with you at the cafe and enjoy an overpriced beverage or two.

The saddest thing about my kids growing up and moving away is no longer having a museum excuse. When they were young I maintained a membership and we spent a couple of days each month doing a museum.

If you want to do this on a weekend, I’m pretty sure I can twist Airman’s arm. Since a trip to Pittsburgh is involved, I don’t think I’ll have to try that hard.

The deal is that I can get 3 people in for $1 each (or $3 for some special events.) I will be in town on Feb 17 and Feb 20 for doctor visits, and following that I can make time. My Saturdays are a little busy for now, the 14 is Valentines day and the third anniversary of my transplants; March 7 is my birthday, and March 14 is that new special holiday.

Other days are possible. I’d like to meet up with as many as we like, but i have the limitation of cheap: the Warhol is $1 with me and $20 without the discount. I can definitely go more than once, and we could work this into a more general gathering if all are willing.

March 7 is my birthday, too! I’ll see if Library1900 has any plans for those dates. We’re in Johnstown but are always up for a trip to Pgh. Maybe we’ll get a mini dope fest going.

If this is happening while the snow is still flying, I regretfully decline. If there is a get together in Spring, or better yet, Summer, I would like to be a part of it.

March 6 is my birthday! And don’t worry Scumpup, once the ice gets broken (in several ways) maybe we can do one or two of these a year. I don’t know about if Anne Neville and some others are still active but we have a fair amount of Dopers around our region.

We should be good for mid-March, as long as the weather doesn’t completely suck in places other than Somerset. The weather always sucks in Somerset.

Yep. I used to drive Pittsburgh to Philadelphia on the turnpike a lot. You could always count on an unseasonable snow squall in Somerset.

I may be available on the afternoon of the 17th, depending on my appointment in Oakland. After than, I will also be in town on Feb 20 from mid-morning onward. March 7 I have birthday stuff to do, but I’ll be in Lawrenceville, so it may be a possibility. Mid March is Ok, I can work my schedule around being available. I moved to a little more than an hour out of Pittsburgh last year, so it’s an easy run to Downtown and around traffic.

I’m pretty sure there was a snow squall in July. Somerset is weird that way.

February 20th is out because it’s a workday for both me and Airman.

BTW, are kids welcome? The sprog is now 12.5 and (mostly) behaves himself.

Excuse? If you like going to museums, the lack of kids going with you is not a reason to stop. As far as I’m concerned, the saddest thing is museums orienting on kids and giving no reason for adults to attend.

The Warhol museum is not a place for kids, as far as I saw.

Sometime after the 20th would be good, I won’t be in the best of moods from my med visits until then.

Depends on the kid. When my daughter was in grade school her art class learned a bit about Andy. We wound up going to the Warhol every two to three Sundays for the next year. My daughter, her art teacher, and I did a group trip and had dinner after. Fucking awkward.

ETA: my son hated it. We did a bunch of Pirate games to makeup for the Warhol.
