Being at a total loss for what to get my parents for Xmas, I decided on getting them a gift certificate for a nice restaurant. I did this a couple years ago and they seemed to like it. Previously, going on the advice of a family friend, I got them a GC for dinner at Monterey Bay and they were very happy.
The problem now is that I have not lived there for almost 8 years. I don’t know what any of the good places are anymore. The Grand Concourse is old hat, and I don’t want that. I’ve been looking around on the web and Isabela on Grandview seems to be getting very good reviews. Also on my radar are Baum Vivant and Le Pommier.
Thoughts on any of these places, or any others I should consider? Thanks.
The Tin Angel (high atop Mt. Washington) is good. If they like Chinese, The Oriental Balcony in Squirrel Hill is good. Valhalla down in the Strip District has been getting good reviews.
Hmm…I live in Squirrel Hill, and I’m not familiar with the Oriental Balcony, and Valhalla just closed recently.
Let’s see: I would recommend Palomino downtown, along with Asiago. I haven’t been to Baum Vivant in a while, but I’ve heard it’s really good. I WOULD recommend Pasta Piatta, but that’s closed too, now (sniff.)
WHAT!?! Nooooooo! That used to be my favorite place to take a young lady. Hell, I even proposed to one there. It wasn’t accepted, but that restaurant has many fond memories for me. My brother and I took my parents there for an anniversary.
The last two times I went there I thought the quality had declined slightly, but I had no idea it had closed. I only opened this thread in the first place to recommend it. Sniff, indeed.
