Pixels on a screen

From my readings of the Dope I’d say there is a sense of community here. Not just among long term members,it’s evinced in the welcoming of some new posters, and has been upheld through “pixels on a screen” arguments in recent Pit postings.
It could be a topic for discussion.
But the spirit of community leads me to ask about a specific poster who I haven’t read for awhile,Olives March 4th.
Does anyone know why no posts,is she OK,etc.?
Possibly my having Guest status causes misgivings in the asking,so I assure all that I’m not a stalker or of bad intent.
No doubt people have varying demands on their posting time, and re-appear when able. Just wondering.

Wow, I’d forgotten about Olives… I too hope she’s OK. (Probably just busy, like I should be!)

Welcome aboard Carson, BTW

You rang? :stuck_out_tongue:
I’ve been wondering about her, too. She was having a rough go of it, as I recall.
The ‘pixels’ point was and is that you ought not allow the opinions of strangers about you - even if they are part of a ‘community’ - to disturb your peace of mind or your knowledge of yourself. [/hijack]

The thing is, though, Quiddity, it’s very difficult to post regularly without establishing some kind of pattern. After a while, people are not just reacting to individual posts of yours. They’re reacting to the character drawn by your posts over a period of time, whether or not they reflect your true nature. Once people start addressing you personally in their replies, you’re beyond the ability to hit the reset button every time you post. People remember what you’ve posted before. And if that seems unfair, ask yourself how long what people do in meatspace lives after them.

Don’t bother, Rilch, she is never, ever, ever going to get it.

Not my thread and not about me. That was a hijack. To say people can react to a hologram as they wish and that’s fine. Fact is, the image people create is of their own making:

Have a lovely day

Oh god no!

Anyway, Olivesmarch4th is working with orphans in Mexico (boy, doesn’t that make me feel like a loser) for a couple months

Orphans in Mexico, eh?

Well, I suppose if that how you want to spend your time rather than posting here…

Unless of course a person is wrong and the community has insights to share…

hypothetically speaking, of course.

She’s fine.

AFAIK olives isn’t in Mexico yet (although she will be soon.)

My WAG (I didn’t go as far as to ask her) is she decided the treatment she got in and around her thread about Sexual Abuse was reason enough to quit posting here. Unfortunate :frowning:

Thanks for the info.I liked her spirit and hope she didn’t decide to quit posting due to treatment here.

I’m doing very well, thanks for asking! Noone Special pointed out this post to me and though I’ve been busy, I couldn’t help but respond (read: I’m stalling on packing my crap for Mexico.)

I graduated April 28th, With Honors, with my Spanish B.A.; the commencement address by Bill Clinton was pretty cool. I also finished my research project (uh… Predictors of Gender Bias in the Facial Prominence of Politicians Worldwide: A Meta-analysis–my country was Venezuela.) I got to present my work at a Psychology research conference, which was a first for me.

And, despite my warring passions, I’ve slowly been developing a cohesive narrative for graduate school, where I will most likely attend for Latin American studies. I’m especially into Mexico and U.S.-Mexico relations, foreign policy and how it impacts cultural narrative and intellectual history as well as social justice and human rights.

I’m heading to Guadalajara on Sunday morning, and during my two months there I’m hoping to have enough spare time to visit Puerto Vallarta, Chichen Itza and Diego Rivera’s murals in Mexico City. I fly home mid-July and then I’m going on an 18 day all-expense-paid Mediterranean cruise from Spain (Barcelona) through France (Nice), Italy (Florence, Naples, Pisa, Rome), Greece (Athens, Santorini), Croatia (Dubrovnik), and then back to Italy (Venice) again. I feel like every day is an amazing gift, it’s awesome–six countries in a single summer! I’ve never been abroad before, ever–and my first trip is allll by myself. I can’t imagine I will be the same person after these experiences.

Not sure how often I will be posting, or with what consistency, but I just wanted to say thanks. I couldn’t possibly be doing better.

Olives,
Christy

Ohhhhhhhh. Jealous!!! It sounds absolutely wonderful!

 Have a grand time. When come back, bring a massive load of photos

Ever.

Congratulations on your graduation! This trip sounds fantastic. Have a fabulous time, and if you can, post some pictures later for us!

I’d been wondering how you were doing, olives. When you get the chance (after all that fun traveling) you need to come back to the MMP!

Hope your travels are wonderful. Come back with pictures and a full report!

OM4th,
Thanks for the update. I am impressed with your accomplishments and hope your upcoming whirlwind meets expectations.Lots of chances to eat good olives,at any rate.
Just goes to show,we can have an effect on people we never meet or think about.
Best wishes to you.

Wow, olivesmarch4th, if you have to be too busy to post here doing it in that kind of style is the way to go

Enjoy every minute of it and take lots of pictures.

Yeah, I know. But she just keeps saying and saying that, to the point where I couldn’t check myself any longer.

I completely understand.
