Hey,
Can anyone recommend a book store that will buy some books I no longer need?
Or let me exchange them for store credit?
Something like a Half-price Books but they don’t have any around here.
Thanks.

Wonder Books and Video in Frederick MD. they have (or had) a few branches.
If only what I read was true!
Out of the side of my eye I saw:
“Place to Sell Used **Boobs **in Northern VA”
I’m in Central VA right now, I could get there by the morning. I’d happily sell them some of mine! I’d be first in line!
Oh, the things we wish for …
Have you looked at PaperbackSwap.com? I’m a member and I love it; it’s let me finish out some book series I wanted to finish but didn’t want to pay full bookstore price for.
It’s not just for paperbacks, you can swap hardbacks and audio books too. And they have a CDSwap also.
There’s only two now, one in Frederick on US 40 and one in Hagerstown. The second one in Frederick closed a year or so ago when the lease was up and the upped the price.
There used to be a used book store in Manchester lakes shopping center (Kingstowne). I sold a few books there for store credit years ago. Don’t know if they are still there. There’s also a used book store on Duke St (Alexandria) near Telegraph rd that I’ve never been into.
There’s a used book place on Smoketown Road in Woodbridge. I’ve always been treated fairly there - if they can’t unload something I have, they’re very up front about it.
Still there, as far as I can tell from the shopping center’s web site; I haven’t been there in a while.

Are you a former Kingstowne-area person?
Whoops - on edit, that link is from the Manchester Lakes community association, not the shopping center management, and it’s definitely out of date (Damon’s is no longer there). But it has the bookstore phone number so you could give them a call.
If you’re near Reston, there’s a great used bookstore on Lake Anne Plaza. http://www.restonsusedbookshop.com/
I live near Kingstowne but not in the megaburb itself.
You know you can sell books on Amazon.com, don’t you? Just in case you were not aware…
I second this.
It can be slow, but I always get a better price, & sometimes an insane one.
I sold a paperback for $26 once.
Sorry I didn’t get back to this thread sooner.
These are GREAT suggestions.
Thanks so much, Dopers.
If you’re just unloading them quickly for space, a used bookstore would be a good idea. If you want to make any money off them, I’d sell them myself on Amazon or Ebay. Used bookstores only give you a small percent of the money they sell the books for.
Also before you cart your books to a shop, make sure they’re something someone else will actually want to buy. Call the store first and ask them what kind of books they want and what kind of books they don’t want. I used to work in a second hand bookshop, and it was a PITA explaining to people that we didn’t want books we couldn’t sell, not even as a donation.
