Plame: Fitzgerald agrees to turn Bush & Cheney interview transcripts over to Waxman

Coverage of a recent speech Valerie Plame gave at Brown University:

After her hour-long speech and question-and-answer session, Plame dropped one bombshell almost casually.

She said a lawyer had called her just before her talk began and told her that special prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald had agreed to turn his transcripts of interviews with Mr. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney over to U. S. Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., who is known for his relish for investigating wrongdoing by Republicans.

Plame said she didn’t know whether the Bush administration would allow the transcripts to be sent to Congress.

1. Is there anything the Admin can do to stop it? (If B&C deny any involvement in the outing, how can they invoke executive privilege here?)

2. If not, what can Waxman make of this? Is the Plame Affair a dead issue through overexposure by now?

… In July, Waxman said, Fitzgerald agreed to turn over the documents to Waxman’s House oversight committee, along with documents from his interviews with State Department and CIA officials. But though he’s turned those other documents over to the committee, the White House has prevented the release of his records of the White House interviews.

BrainGlutton’s article is more recent. I can’t really say what will happen, but I’ll be interested in hearing more on this topic. It’s true that the Plame case probably doesn’t carry huge weight with the public any more, but new revelations about Cheney’s involvement would put Republicans in a negative light yet again. Let’s hope we hear more.

I can’t see that it adds any weight to the conversation. Fitz had already agreed in July to turn over the goods. So it’s better if he agrees twice? I think the reporter may have misunderstood Plame’s intent.

Which sounds just like what my cite was saying – it’s all up to the administration, not Fitz or Waxman.
