PlanetFitness has a 'philosophy' that is ignorant and potentially dangerous

Yes it is. But I’m saying that PF might be pushing that aspect harder than most gyms. I’m also saying that if they are, their low-low prices are a little misleading. If they try to find excuses to kick heavy users out of their facilities then there might be only a narrow range of circumstances where they are truly a good deal.

This all sounds like a bad mix of person to establishment. You knew upfront that it didn’t meet all your needs (e.g. it didn’t have the cardio equipment you wanted) and you didn’t like the conditions there (the lunk alarm), but you were willing to give it a go.

I do think it was crappy that they booted you out in the way they did - you should have had at least one previous warning. I’ll bet the employees didn’t want to (or couldn’t be arsed to) confront you, so they just entered warnings into the computer system without actually speaking to you.

I’m assuming you’re a lot less angry about it now than you were when it first happened, and moving onto next steps rather than dwelling on the injustice. What are your plans? You mentioned this is one of two gyms you were attending, do you think you’ll just go to the other gym full-time now?

Have you ever given serious consideration to setting up your own gym? You are clearly passionate about fitness/training and you understand the needs of wheelchair users. I don’t know where you live so maybe you’re not in a place with enough population to support a gym tailored to those needs.

I asked that question at #210 above and didn’t get an answer. I guess he couldn’t bitch if he kicked himself out of his own gym.

Anyone else surprised a rep of PF hasn’t shown up here to defend the establishment?

It takes an hour to get there from my new job, so I froze the account until September. In September they will be launching a new site in the town that I live, hopefully resolving the distance problem.

I just remembered something from when I signed up for PF, each gym is individually owned and operated. So something tells me there’s going to be a shit-ton of variety between each one.

For example, at the PF I go to, the manager is constantly bugging out over people wearing “dew rags” (which are against the rules), but I’ve seen several people wearing Vibrams shoes. One of them was even chatting up the manager and telling him how great they were.

That is, of course, exactly what would happen if he did put together his own home gym.

b/m. Ok…if you can’t move to set the weights down once you’re strapped in…how do you pick them up in the first place?

Nitpick: Do-rag.

Douche what?

Speaking of bodybuilder douches…going to see The Avengers last week, there was a guy in front of us getting tickets, who brought his own food and drink with him.

A liter container of shake and a gallon…a fucking GALLON…a MOTHERFUCKING GALLON of water.

And he just couldn’t help looking around to see who noticed. Douche.

End hijack.

It’s 'do rag'do as in hairdo.

Are you kidding? If I have learned anything over the years here its that I don’t want ANY straightdopers coming to my place of business

I might be allowing too many kids, or not enough, or people that are too young or too old or too fat or too shy or too outward going or too rude or too polite or tip too much or don’t tip enough or are aint open long enough or open too much or its too hot or too cold or too loud or too quite or not enough selection or too much of selection or filled with old timey shit or no longer have the discontinued shit and on and on and on…

Unless you’re using them to clean up soda. Then they’re dew-rags.

He’s the kind of guy that walks around all day just waiting for someone to ask to feel his bicep.

So did you?

Well, it’s not that I didn’t want to. But hello, awkward. What with the g/f there and all.

This isn’t exactly Facebook.

Sure, but a new guest who registered yesterday and had nothing but glowing things to say about the company would be par for the course.

Par for which course? I haven’t noticed it on the Straight Dope, where a lot of complaining goes on. I don’t think this message board is on any corporation’s public relations radar.

It happened once that I can recall, during a discussion of Gamefly.

Oh, and a few authors have shown up to tell us “you have totally misrepresented what I meant.” But I don’t care if he did write the damn book, he’s wrong.
