Planning to Buy a Car on Carvana.com

Continuing to update my experience with Carvana here for the benefit of folks who might be considering a purchase.

  • Carvana’s customer care is good and helpful - IF you can get through to them without losing your head. Their wait times on a typical day are like 30 minutes at the least. They have a callback option - I used it a couple of times and regretted it. Both times the “Advocate” cut off and did not bother to call me back, so I had to enter the queue again. The best time to reach them is within an hour of their desk opening.

  • Carvana does not do custom license plates. They will give generic plates and you can trade them in for custom ones if you wish. Carvana uses a third-party vendor to process registrations, and do not seem to be able to answer questions once the document pack has been dispatched to their vendor.

  • Carvana’s answer-bot Sebastian is crap. He cannot answer any but the most generic questions. Carvana does not have a live-person chat, or email support. For a company of this size, selling good worth thousands of dollars apiece, their contact options are ridiculously limited.

Still the car itself is working out very well, and I got a huge discount as well, so can’t complain too much. YMMV.
