I’m drooling over the thoughts of the Gamecube primarily because of the inevitable Nintendo genius that will permeate it i.e. Zelda, Mario, Metroid (please let there be a Metroid!) You just know they’ll be quality games.
But don’t get yourself too carried away Airbeck. I’m not holding out any hope of major third party support after the debacle of the N64, I’ve heard there is a distinct lack of development kits doing the rounds for the Gamecube.
At least living in the UK gives me the chance to see how the big three contend abroad well before they finally reach our shores. (Although as a fan of the Big N I know already what I’ll be purchasing.)
SPOOFE, 65000 people at Microsoft still can’t make a stable operating system.
It looks like the guys are talking about video game systems like they talk about their cars or their scars, mine is bigger &/or more powerful. Thing is, none of them have the Xbox yet.
Sure they can. An example of such has already been provided to you. I suggest you insert it into your brain manually so you don’t forget it.
Additionally, do you truly think that all 65,000 Microsoft employees are programmers? Where do they keep their bookkeepers? Accountants? Security personnel? Clerks? Executives? Jesus Christ on a stick, Handy, try coming up with some real-life answers, wouldja?
So? People were talking the same way about the PS2 before it came out. You keep making all these comments that are completely worthless to the discussion at hand. Why?
I think I’m with whoever said, “I’ll buy the one that has the games I like.”
So far, that’s been the PS2 with GT3, DOA2 and MGS2:SoL. (Hehehe, I never thought about the other meanings of “SoL” before. ;] Don’t disappoint us, Kojima-san.) But we’ll see - M$ has been buying every game company they can get their hands on.
But, on the balance, does anyone remember the first year of the original PSX launch? There was, like, ONE good game - Wipeout. Everything else totally sucked dog balls. If Sony can pull off what they did with the PSX again, the PS2 could concievable win big. That’s a BIIIIGGG if though. It’s still anybody’s game out there.
Oh yeah, from a computer geek standpoint… I will probably be able to get Linux for my PS2 sooner or later. Think MicroSmack is going to allow me to do that on the X-Box? Doubt it. Now, this is a totally irrelevant point for 95% of gamers, but for me personally, it might tip the scales…

In my experience, Nintendo makes better multiplayer console games than anyone. Super Smash Brothers continues to keep my group entertained to this day. Super Smash Brothers Melee will be the first game I will ever have camped out for.

I haven’t owned a game console since Super Nintendo. Super Smash Brothers almost made me buy an N64.
Now with Metroid AND another Smash Brothers, GameCube is almost a must for me. But, I’ll wait to see what happens.
Pete, not to be a wet blanket or anything, but I don’t think SBM will be popular enough for you to have to camp out for. I’ll probably (assuming I get a GC, of course) be content preordering from EB or Amazon or something. It really is a fun game, tho. (Not as much of a graphic powerhouse as one would expect, but that’s alright.)
