This appears to be the post that was flagged, in its entirety.

I don’t know what you intended it to be, but it appears to be a link to a Google search. It was flagged as inappropriate, because it was incomprehensible.

Please take more care in posting in the future.

Thankyou for identifying the offending post. The post was in response to a person asking which was a better car light: LED or HID. My response was “led” followed by a link to the results of many visual comparisons of the two that demonstrate the difference between the two. I guess context is everything, and the program making the decisions is incapable of this.

If you’d posted it like this:

Here is a comparison of LED and HID headlight bulbs,

I doubt there would have been an issue.

It appears you formatted the post wrong. I suspect the “led” at the beginning screwed it up. Here it is without the intial “led.”

Oh, it even parses google searches? Discourse is kinda cool sometimes.

There was a space between my led and the URL. As far as I know, there are no spaces in urls, so my guess is that the program simply does not like large URLs and little text, so Johnny’s example is the necessary workaround. Thanks Johnny.

URL’s work best (usually) if it is on a line by itself with no other text on the same line. Putting the word “led” at the beginning of the same line was the problem.

Thanks, Senegoid. That nails it down nicely.

Putting the URL on a line by itself is one way. It gives you the “OneBox” where the thumbnail and a bit of text from the actual site appears, or the picture if the URL is a picture. It doesn’t work for all sites – the site itself must be coded properly for a OneBox to appear.

The other way, that lets you put a URL on the same line along with other text like this also works. For this, type the text you want the user to see enclosed in square brackets, followed immediately by the URL enclosed in parentheses.

If you see any neat thing in any post and you want to see how the poster did that, click on the Reply button at the bottom of the post, then click on the “quote” tool in the tool bar of the edit box. (It’s the very left-most thingy in the tool bar.) That imports the post you’re quoting in its entirety, including all formatting codes. (If you just highlight some or all of a post and click on the “Quote” button, the formatting codes are lost.)

Now that’s a handy tip! Thanks!

Can anybody point me to the ongoing discussion on the subject? I’m trying to decide whether I should swap out a set of headlight bulbs for some LEDs.

N/M. Found it in GQ.
