Please define "Snap" for the tragically unhip...

This is something that doesn’t get said in my group a lot–since the early nineties, at least. Not too long ago, I was watching The Mummy Returns, and a friend of mine came in and sat down. Something not good happens, and she reacts with “Awww, snap.”

I was baffled. I actually had to stop the DVD, turn to her, and say “Did you just aww snap the Army of Anubis???”

Now instead, we say “Awww, nubis.”

Usually when I throw a zinger about a 3rd party, my one friend says “oh snap!”. To which I always reply “oh snap. I didn’t know we had been transported back to 1993!” (how this person remains my best friend is beyond me )

If you have one friend (as opposed to “one of my friends” or “a certain friend”), isn’t he by default your best friend?

Basically. I haven’t used it in real life since I was in grade school. I think I stopped using “sike” around the same time.
