I’m just curious:
When on January 20, 2029 at 12:01pm EST none of this has come to pass, will these same posters be willing to come back to the thread and admit they were wrong? Because based on past history, that’s a hard no.
I expect I’ll be dead, one way or another, along with most people here. And the board shut down.
Is it hyperbole? Have you looked into “Project 2025” and their stated plans? Trump saying that, if elected, you won’t have to vote again?
He’s not even president yet. Where is the hyperbole?
“How can Trump commit dozens of serious felonies including stealing highly classified documents and attempting a violent overthrow of the government, and never face any actual criminal penalties for any of them?”
Anyway, I’d like to welcome Saint_Cad back from the cave on Mars they’ve been living in for the past several years.
You said the same thing eight years ago.
By which he meant “I won’t be on the ballot, why the fuck do I care?”, not “I promise to abolish democracy”.
Trump is a narcissist and a liar.
Whether or not Trump becomes dictator for life and ends American Democracy (and if he doesn’t, yes I will admit I was wrong in a public post on this board), I expect the following-
Within a few months LGBTQ rights will be rolled back to pre Stonewall. Transitioning from one gender to another in any way will be illegal. Any licensed medical proffesional found helping a trans person transition (therapy, hormones. surgery etc) will be fined, imprisoned and have their license stripped for life.
Trump will go after “illegal immigrants” just as he promised. He will also go after immigrants here legally, and Hispanic/Latino people who were born in America, The rights of all non-white peole will. be stripped away. It will become socially acceptable to call them slurs, spit on them, and if they get ‘uppity’ you can beat them without fear of legal consequence.
There will be a national abortion ban.
If you disagree with any of this, please tell me why.
Do you have either telepathy or a cite to back up your interpretation of Trump’s statement?
And that’ll just be the first six months or year.
Donald Trump lost the 2020 election. He refused to accept that result and told his followers to storm the capital building and make him President.
That is something that literally happened. Donald Trump tried to overthrow the American government and have himself proclaimed President by mob violence.
So, no, it is not hyperbole to say that Trump will try to violate the Constitution, eliminate elections, and appoint himself leader. BECAUSE IT IS SOMETHING HE HAS ALREADY DONE.
Because none of that will benefit Trump personally.
It’s just stuff he promised to do in order to get elected. Now he’s been elected. He doesn’t need the voters anymore. And those voters are going to find out how little a Trump promise is worth.
And according to the doomsayers in this thread, he succeeded and Joe Biden never became president, because Trump can do whatever he wants and nobody can stop him and all the authorities will go along with it no matter what.
“Will Trump personally face legal consequences for X” != “can Trump do X successfully”.
But it hurts people, and Trump loves to hurt people. Especially women and non-whites.
Nobody said that.
I strongly agree with this. Many people I have talked to insist that is was not an insurrecton because it was small, poorly planned, and doomed to fail. I don’t deny that it was any of those things. But it was an attempt by an armed group to invade a building that houses the legislative branch of our government and forcibly overturn the results of a legitimate Presidential election, It was by any reasonable definition an insurrection.
The point is he tried. He had his followers attack the capitol. And he came close. What if Pence had done as Trump wanted?
This time Trump is in an even stronger position.
If somebody in this thread said that, I missed it. Could you please quote the post so I can read it?
He says a lot - border wall anyone? I say he can’t pull it off.
You must have been in the cave with me because I agreed with Little_Nemo that Trump won’t be held accountable. But my argument had been that he won’t succeed in repudiating the Constitution or rounding up Democrats into camps.
Hopefully, you understand when I tell you that I’ve reconsidered asking you to speak at my nephew’s high school graduation.
They’ve said he will succeed at violating any law he wants. The failure of the insurrection should be a counterexample but for some reason it seems to be even more proof that he can ignore the Constitution and seize power at will.
