Please enforce the location field

My location field exists because people keep asking me. I’ve already made my state public, and the name in quotes indicates the quality of the town, even if it doesn’t indicate the exact location.

I also recently turned on my age for the same reason. I’ve already revealed my birthday and my age, so why not let it be on my profile?

Just PM or email a person whose location you want to know. Presumably you’ll have a legitimate reason for wanting the information, and if so they’ll probably tell you. It’s not something we could feasibly enforce.

I think, for cases like the OP is complaining about, we should collectively assume a standard location, say, Antarctica, and answer based on that.

How come?

Ok, what is location negative forty-one dot four supposed to be?

I think someone should write a program that would take the IP address of each user and calculate the distance to SDMB Ground Zero (Chicago), and put that in the location field.

Even better claim to write that program but just make it a random number.

Only if they’ll pay you for it.

Apparently, for the OP, it’s all about Location! Location! Location!

Everybody, change your location field to Paraguay! The purpose? To not see a single non-Paraguay field by December 22. Join the fight for South American Tree Frog awareness and post this in every thread on the SDMB for the Tree Frogs!!!

“So many reasons why, I won’t be sending Tree Frog postcards . . . from Paraguay” doesn’t fit.

Sorry.
