Please explain the SyFy strategy to me

I’m confused by it too (speaking of the cheesy movie of the week entries, not the usually decent miniseries):

  1. Occasionally there’s a mildly good script, but usually they are rock bottom of the barrel. They could buy fan fiction ten times better.

  2. But somehow they have the budget for “name” stars (name within scifi series circles anyway).

  3. They waste the effects budget on crappy CGI creatures. The same money could go towards much better looking effects of things that aren’t hybrid monsters.

I’d like to see them get some smarter or higher concept scripts (or even just fun stuff like Amazing Stories). There’s plenty of great scifi ideas that don’t depend on creatures or space battles. I can’t see them having to cost more than the crap they are putting out now, and if they market it right and maybe not put it on right after wrestling it could even draw an audience.
