Please help decipher my own notes

I bought a new purse today and commenced to clean out the old–a daunting task.

I found a note, handwritten by me, at the bottom. I have no idea when I wrote this note, but it had to be in the past 4 years. I find it obscure and nonsensical. Before I call the psychiatrist, I thought I’d pass it by Dopers to see if any of you can comprehend it. (If so, I will not call, but run stat to the shrink!)

Here is what I think it says–my [del]scribble[/del]cursive handwriting is not good.

the calculus offers(?) (could be affair) explores [del]f[/del]on the moon castafiore emerald the picasso(?) (could be pisaro)/ and of black gold.

I never took calculus and there is no moon castafiore that I know of.

And why would I write such a thing at all?

Bread, milk, butter and a pound of potatoes.

Can you scan it and post it somewhere so we can see it for ourselves?

The Castafiore Emerald.

Second the request for a picture. If you can’t even decipher your own handwriting well enough to be able to at least tell us what the actual words are, how do you expect us to make any headway? Post a pic and let us have at it.

This thread is useless without photographs.

All right, pics you shall have…

Missed the edit window, but here you all are. My lipgloss leaked a bit on it, sorry.

I googled castafiore and got Tintin, too–but I am still  re the black gold and the picasso/pisaro stuff. Also, I am not sure just where I would have run across Tintin in my everyday life. #2 son loves him, but I have never seen Tintin souvenirs etc; I haven’t been downtown for fun/shopping in about a year; anything online wouldn’t make it to my purse–that is, if I wanted the book, I would have just ordered it online…

It appears to me that you were involved with high end jewelry and art thieves. The note clearly reads…

The Calcilin (obviously a code name) offers lx (large?) platinum thermos(Why a thermos?), Castifiore emerald(Clever ploy, alluding to a book to hide the fact that it’s a real jewel!), the Picasso, and a block (of) gold.

You should probably figure out what your end of the deal was. Would hate to see you get whacked for forgetting.

I don’t know what it’s about, but it’s a groovy poem, at least.

It’s a list of four things, right?

“The calendars offer
Explorers on the moon
Castafiore emerald
The picaros’ land of black gold”

According to Wiki, there was a supporting character in Tintin called Professor Calculus. There was a story called The Calculus Affair. there’s another called Destination Moon , which may be your second line. Then the Castafiore Emerald, which you already know about. The last line is Tintin and the Picaros and The Land of Black Gold

You have a list of Tintin stories.

StG

The Calculus Affair is a Tintin book too.

Explorers of the Moon is the second line in your note.

Land of Black Gold is the end of the last line.

Not sure about “picasso”…if that’s even what that says.

It’s all Tintin titles.

The Calculus Affair
Explorers on the Moon
The Castafiore Emerald
Land of Black Gold
Tintin and the Picaros

You’re welcome. Why you made the list only you can say. Is it possible you were considering titles to buy for your son?

It IS a list of Tintin books! And now I remember that there was an interview of someone connected with the books on NPR around Christmas. He recommended the “best” titles and I wrote them down, in the parking lot before I went into work. Elementary!

I appreciate all of your mad deciphering skillz. I took it as a sentence and was confused.

And doesn’t my handwriting just suck? It’s getting worse as I age.
I like the glam life Antinor would have for me, though, so I’ll reserve final judgement until that fantasy wears thin.

Looks like I’m a day late and a dollar short as usual.

Nah–it was the fastest solved thread, evah. I posted it about 30 minutes ago. Good on Dopers!

If nothing else, it was an extremely interesting set of words to find scribbled on a red stained piece of paper at the bottom of your purse. Made me feel like a real detective for a minute there. hehe

I was just about to suggest that it was an attempt to solve the 14 k of g puzzle, but didn’t want to revive the monster.

AAAAAUUUUGGGGHHHHH!

Dangit, I’m too late! I knew it was Tintin titles!

This is what I get for taking my kids to the park. I’m spending the summer indoors, staring at a computer screen.
