So years ago, I used to be large. I did most of my shopping at places like Lane Bryant, and was able to find stuff in the styles I liked: for lack of better words unisex/tomboy/tailored/simple. Things like striped shirts, solid color T-shirts, geometric patterns, etc. Nice, simple, “menswear look” without being men’s clothes. Things that would be suitable for a tech writer to wear to work and look presentable without looking at all dressy.
I went to Weight Watchers, lost a bunch of weight, and things were easy. I could wear whatever I wanted, so finding clothes of the type I like was great.
However…I’ve backslid. I’ve now gained back a fair bit of weight, and once again I’m large. But it seems like in the time I was “gone” from the plus size ranks, the styles have all changed. Now everything is tight fitting, weird patterns, ruffly, weird colors…Ugh. I get depressed every time I look because I can never find anything I like. It’s like the whole world has gone girly on me. And realistically, even if I do decide to start working at losing weight again it’s going to take quite awhile, so I’m stuck with plus size stuff for the near future at minimum.
So…anybody have any suggestions (online or physical stores) where I can look? Here are my criteria:
-
It cannot be tight fitting. Nothing with spandex in it, nothing fitted or “figure hugging.” I hate that stuff. I like shirts that fit loosely and don’t cling. This stupid look that seems to be popular nowadays (and not just in plus size stuff) where you look like your shirt is two sizes too small and you’re going to burst your buttons if you take a deep breath…no, thanks. Usually I prefer to wear a T-shirt or similar with something like a jacket/button-down shirt/hoody over it.

No flowers, ruffles, or other “feminine” stuff. I want classic, tomboy, solid color or unisex type pattern stuff. I’ve been told I dress like a lesbian, and I consider that a compliment.
Men’s stuff is fine as long as it doesn’t look like men’s stuff. So anything to the more feminine end of men’s or the more masculine end of women’s would be great.

Nothing that’s too hard to take care of. I’d like to just be able to wash it and either dry it or hang it up to dry.
Pants aren’t really a big problem. It’s mostly tops/shirts I’m having trouble with. Anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks!
