PLEASE help me get motivated to clean my sh*tfest apartment!

Nothing motivates me to clean my house more than the words, “You’re mom called. She’s coming over to visit.”

Thanks again for the motivation. I did my items 1-4 and dusted. Now I’m off to my house I have for sale to rake leaves. Maybe if someone buys it, I can hire a maid.

Let me know when you can’t get motivated to do some painting - I have an entire livingroom that is “institutional green”.

Okaaayyy, um, so here’s what happened.

My friend, Sue, called up and asked me to come out and see her for a little bit. So I did and now I’m back. I feel worlds better now that the cleaning is managable and I’m not as down.

Amen to that.

For those of you still cleaning - keep up the good work. I’ll be finishing up now.

Tibs.

p.s. Thank you.

I have the same thing but it’s my exwife comming over. No no no, I don’t live in a pig sty.

Ok, here is my advice:

Instead of saying: “Ohmygod my place is a mess look at all the work I have to do!”
Say: “Wow, look at all the stuff piled up, Boy am I good at adapting to different environments!” then have a sweet snack and do something fun.

Instead of saying: “Look at that pile of laundry, I am such a pig!”
Say: “I am completely out of underwear, but I feel patriotic. I think I will go to the store and buy some more, thereby contributing to the economy just like the President is urging everyone to do!”

Instead of saying: “Look at all those dishes, eeeeeeeeeeeee!”
Say: “Ya know, if I let those things pile up, some of the bacteria might actually combine or transmute and create a cure for anthrax or aids or smallpox or pigeontoes or something.” Then allow yourself to feel noble, have a treat and do something fun.

Ya see, you don’t really need energy, just a few well placed rationalizations.

You guys are great. Thanks for all the help yesterday. It lifted my spirits considerably - that and a well timed phone call from a SDMB friend, WeirdDave.

I like the rationalizations, Enuma Elish.

Tibs.

I know the feeling. I spent time cleaning my room last weekend, and then i trash it the nezt day.
My biggest problem is being a pack rat, i cannot get over this tendency to save stuff. I really need lots of help, you know?

I understand, Anya. I’m overly sentimental about some things and don’t throw some things away easily enough. I’m getting better. Oh, no wait…I’ve just got storage space now.

Tibs.

I suspect that my problems in this area, Keeping Clean and Organized, are symptoms of a deep and abiding neurosis. Sloth. Confusion. Inability to follow through on projects. Hoarding. Unattainable perfectionism. Immaturity. Who knows what else.

One would think that the discomfort of being a pig, unable to have guests over because of SHAME would outweigh the discomfort of daily cleaning and organizing maintenance, but apparently not.

It’s like being fat. After awhile you begin to think, “Maybe I LIKE being fat.” (“Maybe I LIKE being a filthy, disorganized slob.”)

Yet, I don’t think I do like it.

I’m going to go and smoke a delicious, Marlboro, menthol, 72 now.

Over and out.

Rapacia

I’ve given up on cleaning my apartment. I’ll just burn it to the ground at some point when I move to a new one.

Edit: Damn it. Didn’t notice this was a zombie. Must… pay… attention.

:smack:

Welcome, Rapacia. If you want to start a new thread about this, please go ahead. But I’m going to close this thread because it’s almost 12 years old.
