I like many of the British sci-fi shows I have seen. They seem to have an edginess, or realism, as foolish as that might sound about fiction.
I once saw a two-part movie/mini-series that, for the life of me, I can’t remember the name of, nor do I remember the names of the cast. It was about a scientist who was experimenting with gene manipulation. He used some of his DNA/sperm(I missed the first half hour, so not sure) and combined it with a female gorilla’s egg’s. She bore a child that at first seemed more simian but very quickly became more human, although he couldn’t speak normally. He looked like and was raised as a human, and after a throat operation, could speak as a human. He had no idea what he was and his father presented him to his wife as an acknowledged bastard. He grows up and finds out who and what he is and of course it knock him for a loop. I won’t give away the end here.
So why can I remember all this and not the title? I’d like to see it again.
I saw part of that when it was on - a few years ago, IIRC. The ending was…well, shocking, really… the only thing that annoyed me was the behaviour of the priest, which I think was really badly portrayed - I’d like to think that the average churchman would have been a little more supportive in that situation…
I remember the part with the priest too. Trying to tell the poor guy that if he is what he says he is then he may not have a soul? I’m with you **ShadowWarrior, ** I’d like to think that any clergy I trusted enough to tell such a thing would handle it better. It’s my opinion, as a Christian, that any sentient being, which the young man certainly was, has a soul. It wouldn’t matter where his genes came from. He could be an alienm for crying out loud.
Actually, I couldn’t remember the name of the series either, but for some reason I remembered that Charles Dance was one of the stars, so popped his name into the imdb, and…voila.
I would love to see the series again as well. I remember it being pretty damn good.
