My (obviously not too reliable) memory keeps telling me Chum FM 30. But since it’s not a “hit” it could have been Friday Night Videos or something. It would have been a Canadian or New York State channel back then.
Marth and the Muffins, “Echo Beach”?
Could you possibly make this harder for us?
I’ll take stab and say “In a Big Country” by Big Country.
I am reporting in to say that I have now watched so many Canadian videos of the early 80s that my head is going to explode from the sheer Canadian-ness and 80s-ness overload. OMG. You have never seen anything more Canadian or more 80s than Glass Tiger’s Don’t Forget Me When I’m Gone (Canadian version).
Maybe something on this list?
I give up. Thank you everyone for your help. It must have been a really obscure video that for some reason stuck in my pre-teen brain. Thanks again and please don’t expend any more energy on this. If I can’t remember it during 30 years I’m not going to now.
Did you watch Gowan and Jane Siberry?
For some reason this pinged my memory bank, also. But I can’t find the original video on youtube to check. The timeframe is certainly correct, and it does feature a cottage - but I can’t recall any other details of the video
Can’t find the right “Big Country” video. Here’s an alternate one that includes original and new stills. Seems to match some key points of the OP.
Dude, I had the exact same problem and when I googled what the song was about it brought me here. I finally figured it out a few days later, but is this the song you were thinking of?
When in Rome - The Promise
Sorry, I don’t know the video (although I did watch a lot of them on CityTV around that time :)).
No, I am posting just to say that I can really relate about you wondering whether it might have actually been a dream. Before the movie I was looking for was identified in my recent ‘What Movie is This?’ thread, I was becoming more and more convinced that I must have dreamt the whole thing. So, you never know . . .
I cant believe the CityTV guy just died. CityTV everywhere! And the way he used to announce the baby blue flicks at 1 am on friday nights like he was purposely mocking us pre-pubescent perverts.
Even if it’s not the same video, it’s awfully coincidental that you both were looking for something similar. I wonder if you both heard or saw something recently that awakened the memory.
ETA: You better believe I planned my Friday nights in order to be home in time to watch the Baby Blue Movie!
BTW, since this is a fairly old thread (I hadn’t realized how old when I posted), the OP’er may not be following it any longer. Maybe you should send him a personal message.
Yep I did that. I didn’t mean to necro but like you said it was like some cosmic coincidence I found this post.
I am a child of the 80s and I am pretty confident we are thinking of the same song. 30 years plays tricks on the memory banks!
What’s funny is i posted earlier in this with some long shots…but now i know the video the guy is talking is talking about, i can see the ending in my head. So at least he didn’t dream it. I swear its rockish like Aldo Nova or Rainbow. Early 80’s not synth pop, though it may have keyboards in it.
The only video I’ve ever seen for U2’s “I Will Follow” was a live performance.
USA Channel’s “Night Flight” played a lot of obscure things that MTV didn’t, things I’ve never heard or seen since.
I think the song you are thinking of is Fallen Angel by Poison
probably not it, but maybe Run Runaway, by Slade?
So Kim Mitchell, Rik Emmett or Rush
Almost sure is this video, Matthew Wilder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9zUjVB8pw4
