Please help me identify this fruit bearing plant.

Just now, I saw a plant I’ve never seen before. It was a small tree, with egg shaped fruits that were turning red with dark purple striations. Please excuse the aphids, it’s not in my garden or it’d have ladybugs to the rescue.

Here is the foliage, and here is the fruit.

Thanks!

Tamarillo?

Aubergine (eggplant) I think.

Oh, although the leaves do look more like tamarillo

I agree with tamarillo, aka tree tomato Solanum betaceum. Fruit.

I think you’re cute for apologizing on behalf of someone else’s aphid infestation. The gardeners equivalent of having spinach in your teeth.

Aha! That’s exactly what it is.

There may be one less fruit on that tree tomorrow. Er, in the interest of science.
