I have a nicely matted and beautifully framed print of what I think is a famous painting.–
It looka as though it may have been done in the 1800’s, although the subject may be placed in an earlier time. It is a young girl, 16 or 17, in a loose dark green velvet dress. There is a loose pink silk sash with a yellowy tassle. She has red hair done in a loose bun at the back, lily-white skin, and perfect cupid’s-bow lips. Her eyes look very languid or even disenchanted. She is seated, in profile on her right side, but turned a bit towards the viewer.
Placed vertically in front of her is a violin. She has her left hand languidly on the strings, near the bridge. Her right hand holds the bow, also vertically. There is some sheet music and a few daffodils on a table in front of her.
In the background, in the top left corner of the picture, is an elaborate birdcage.
Sound familiar, anyone?
