I’ve been using Dropbox on my PC and my Android phone for some time, and have never had any problems with it, but I’ve been trying to get it to work with my wife’s iPhone 5 and am stymied.
All I want to do is share a text file shopping list between our two phones. So I installed the Dropbox app on her phone, set up a folder from her account and shared it with my account. I’ve put the file in the folder from my phone, but it doesn’t appear on her phone.
I wanted to try to create a file on her phone to see if I could see it from my phone, but I couldn’t find any way to do that. Unlike the Android version, the iPhone version of Dropbox doesn’t seem to have a way to create a simple text file. Or if it does, I couldn’t find it. And the native IOS Notes program doesn’t seem to have a way to save a file in Dropbox.
Test if the sharing mechanism is working between the 2 accounts with another file like a photo. Also make sure the folder that is being shared is not located in another shared folder because that doesn’t work.
Just to be sure, I uninstalled Dropbox from the iPhone, shut it off, restarted it, and reinstalled Dropbox.
Then I uploaded a picture from another computer to the shared file. I can see it (and the original text file) on that computer and on my Android phone, but not on the iPhone, which says the folder is empty.
Also, I can see no way to put a file into the folder from the iPhone.
What am I doing wrong? Is it Dropbox? Is it the iPhone?
I couldn’t get it to work: I could share a folder between the iPhone and Android, and could see files that were present when it was shared, but edits to files made on Android weren’t visible on the iPhone and vice versa.
I’ve given up and am using Google Drive, which worked perfectly right off the bat.
