Please help! Need quick puppy advice!

Oops, I missed that part of your post. Good luck at the vet. Your vet should be able to give you a lot of good advice about the care of the puppy.

I see someone’s already mentioned pedialyte, it works. I nursed two puppies through parvo, I gave them pedialyte every 15 minutes to a half an hour. I used a water bottle with a squirt cap.

It should work fine for plain old dehydration too. I don’t know about the alcohol on the pads though, she might lick it off.

Hooray, hopefool! Good for you!
But do keep the pup isoltaed from the other dig…kennel cough, fleas/ticks, etc. The usual possible dog stuff that can be spread from one to another needs to be ruled out. My fingers are crossed. Any idea what kind of dog it is? Just a professional question…I’m a dog groomer. If you keep the pup, I can help give you tips on keeping long coated dogs tangle-free…

Welcome aboard(s) BorealisBelle. Nice to have another animal lover around these parts.

I don’t have a lot to add, except more good wishes and a set of tightly crossed fingers!

If it’s very little, you might also add the old standby’s of a muffled ticking clock and a stuffed animal in it’s bed.

Good luck!

how is the little baby?

I have nursed various animals(domestic and a few wild) and am constantly picking up strays.

How is the wee pup?

I’m bumping this so Hopefool will see it and remember to let us all know how the little dodger’s doing.

Funny. I can watch the medical shows all day long and feel a sort of detached empathy for the patients…but you show me a sick/wounded animal, like on Emergency Vets, and I sit there and sob through the entire show.

It just breaks my heart that no one can ever explain to them why anyone would ever hurt them. And even after everything they go through, they still have more faith than any person I’ve ever met.

It occurs to me that you should probably check around for an owner too. Just because the pup was out by itself doesn’t mean someone isn’t looking for it. Mother dogs and cats will sometimes take off with their babies and hide them for no visable reason. We caught Bookitty heading up the ladder to our attic with a kitten in her mouth just a couple of weeks ago!

If Mom was a stray, there might be other pups out there too. A quick look in the likeliest places couldn’t hurt.

Update!!!

We would like an update, please!!
<crosses fingers for good news>

Ooooh, so sorry I haven’t gotten to update everyone sooner. We had computer problems. Stupid PC! Anyway, the news is VERY good!!! She’s actually got a superb bill of health. Looks like no Parvo or Distemper, only some worms. We have antibiotics to give her for another week or so and she has to be quarantined (sp?) until the middle of this month when she’s managed to pass all of said worms. And since everyone was so incredibly helpful and supportive, I wanted to pass on what all worked in case anyone in the future might need it.

We did at first use Esbilac to help supplement her meals but have since switched to Pedialyte (grape flavor for us also!) because it was cheaper and she seems to like it better. Other than that, she pretty much is eating everything in sight now, much to the Dalmation, Sagan’s, chagrin. We’ve also been giving her puppy vitamins too.

Her temperature was kept down by keeping alcohol on the pads of her feet and tummy. She’s been massaged a lot and checked from tail to nose. Overall, she mostly looks peachy with no ticks, bumps, bites or cuts and thankfully, no ear mites. Just a few sores on her belly and those are almost gone now save for a few scabs. The rest of her functions are in good working order and the worms appear to be gone too.

I think that covers all the things we’ve been doing and trying. Furthermore, she’s gone from being completely comatose to, as of today, bouncing around, playing with Sagan, trying to give kisses and following us around constantly. Oooh, I think I’m in love. She’s so sweet and nary a complaint. We’ve found us another angel, I do believe.

Now on to a couple more individual replies…

Necromancer~ Yes, we’re keeping her. Once she wiggled in my husband’s arms, I knew I was already sold. How could I say no to that? She’s just a keeper, is all.

BorealisBelle~ She looks like a cross between a Healer and a Collie. Long hair, solid black except for white on the paws and around her neck. Looking at her feet though, she comes across as staying quite small. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for that. And of course I can’t wait for help with grooming tips. You’ll forever be on my list as a contact now. Hope you don’t mind.

zoogirl~ This little thing doesn’t make a peep. She just sleeps in a little bed beside ours, all through the night. Such a good puppy. I am just overwhelmed and feeling mighty blessed, I tell ya.

Lastly, I pray that she wasn’t drumped and instead, like had been mentioned, just wandered away from her mom. I can’t bear the thought, like so many of you guys, that someone would intentionally abandon babies (of any sort, although I know they do). I will be checking into whether or not there is an owner somewhere or if she has siblings (gosh, at this late date, I hope not!) or what, but I’m doubtful if I’ll find anything out. But I’ve got to try. I’ll keep everyone posted on that if there ends up being anything to tell.

Again, I really am appreciative of everyone’s help and well wishes. Certainly the vets (CCL and PaterArmadillo)and those that work with them, groomers (BorealisBelle)and animal lovers in general! You guys have been the absolute best and I am so grateful that I had a place to come for assistance and support. Thank you all so very much from the bottom of all the hopefools’ hearts.

That only leaves one last question (and, of course, future puppy tales :p). What should we name her? Kudos to koeeoaddi and thanks for the suggestion. This’ll be so cool. And I’ll be eagerly awaiting good ideas.

Thank you all again. I am blessed.

Yay! Good deal hopeful! I’ve been checking this thread every day and I’m so glad she’s okay. In my experience, the critters that get to me the hard way - the foundlings and adoptees - always turn out to be incredible pets. Good lick with this one. You are both fortunate to have found each other.

Now, about that Fido thing…

That was supposed to be “good luck,” but as typos go, it wasn’t bad.

[hijack]I posted this in a different thread, but you know how old ladies are.

removes an 10’ long accordion of pictures from her purse

Here is a picture of my foundling. She was sitting at the pound for 2 weeks and was just hours away from euthanasia when I adopted her. Her name is Daisy-Diesel and as you can see, she is a goddess.[/hijack]
