Please recommend a book about The Great Leap Forward

I am curious about this… event and I want to learn more. There are lots of titles on the Wikipedia entry, but I don’t know where to start. Need something kind of accessible, please. Assume I really don’t know much at all about China.

For an interesting first-hand account of life in China during the run-up to the Great Leap Forward, there’s Escape from Red China by Robert Loh.

Part of Wild Swans covers this period.

On China by Henry Kissinger.
Good book. Read this and you will know a lot about China.

I really enjoyed “Mao’s War Against Nature.”
