I’m going to visit the U. of Penn soon. I’ll fly into Philly, and I don’t want to rent a car. Can anyone recommend a hotel within walking distance or a relatively short bus or cab ride from Penn’s campus? I’d like to try to keep it under $100.

You’ll have a tough time as most hotel rates in cities start around 120/night.

I can vouch for all the hotels on the Penn Page as being fine. You can get a cab/train to all these hotels from the airport/trainstation. And most you could walk to from 30th Street Station.
You should eat at the White Dog Cafe.
Can a Philadelphian confirm that the “University Area” shown on this map is the UPenn area? If someone can, you may as well try Priceline, ryanbobo.
Yup, that’s the area around Penn and Drexel.
Let us know when you’re coming, ryanbobo – we’re trying to do a monthly dinner (though we occasionally miss a month), and could schedule one for while you’re in town if you’d like to meet some local Dopers.
Thanks for the help, everyone. I actually found a really nice hotel near campus in Center City at 1/2 rate using a certain hotel booking website (I don’t know if I should name it so I don’t come across as advertising for them).
