Please recommend a scary ghost book.

Auntie Pam, just wanted to thank you for recommending The Good House by Tananarive Due. I’m maybe halfway through, and I’m just sitting here at work jonesing for my book! I so rarely get that feeling these days.

Pigeons From Hell, by Robert E. Howard.

Made into one of the best episodes of Boris Karloff’s Thriller series. Actually, it was probably the best.

Though it’s a bit dated, I’m currently reading a collection of “Carnacki, the Ghost Finder” stories, and I’m finding them to be truly chilling. I would highly recommend them.

Great, now Amazon gets even more of my money…

M. R. James’s short stories are worth reading. There aren’t a lot of them, so a "Complete Short Stories of " is a fairly slim book … but as ghost stories go, they’re among the best ever.

You’re welcome.

That’s how I felt too. It was so nice to read a decent horror novel after years of the same old same old. She’s written other stuff too, and I’m dithering about whether to add to the TBR pile/mountain.

I just remembered another excellent ghost story. Maybe it’s too quiet to be really scary, but it was a good read – The Night Country by Stewart O’Nan.
