Please recommend a website design program

I maintain a family webpage - pictures of the kids, a blog-like weekly diary of what we’re up to. I don’t have the time to learn HTML, I just want Aunt Frannie to see my Halloween pictures.

I found CoolPage to be a very nice, VERY inexpensive webpage developer. It’s very close to WYSIWYG, is very intuitive - most things are truly drag-and-drop.

About the only complaint I have is that it’s text editing is not very feature-rich, but I’m willing to live with that.

No. The changes of XHTML 1.1 over HTML 4.01 (I hope I am getting the version numbers right :)) are very minor, so you might as well use it.

I never said it was.

No, I said it was WYSIWYG.

The new Java version is not.

But the old version (which I linked to, and is a Windows program) can split the screen and have a browser so you can see your changes.

OK, so it’s only half WYSIWYG. I got spoiled using Dreamweaver.

I downloaded this. Norton Antivirus found a trojan horse virus.

So I got rid of it (the virus and the program). What gives? I don’t suggest anyone else download and install it, but does anyone else know what gives? The last thing I expected was a trojan horse from this program!

I also recommend Dreamweaver, (I have it for my Mac) but if you can’t get that, I like HomeSite or BBEdit.

Wow. My life has been forever changed.

Oh, also, to answer your resolution question, I generally size my pages with a maximum width of 800 so that those still using 800 x 600 can see the whole thing width-wise (actually, I try to fit them into 750 if I can, so those people don’t have to have their browser take up the whole screen), but it depends on your target audience.
