I was hoping that some of you could answer a few short questions that I could use as information in a paper that I am writing at school.
If you choose to partiticipate, then please answer the questions as short as possible in the beginning of your post, and save any discussion for the end, to make it easier for me to tally up the responses.
Here we go.
What is your age and sex?
How would you rate your current knowledge of stem cell research?
a. None.
b. Occasional reading of newspaper and magazine articles.
c. Regularaly follow information about stem cell research.
d. Extensive reading of medical journals or firsthand research.
What is your position on stem cell research?
a. Pro - Researchers should have few restrictions and federal funding.
b. Con - Research should be halted as harvesting stem cells halts life.
c. Middle of the Road - Somewhat uncomfortable with where stem cells come from, but feel that benefits are worth it.
d. No opinion.
You do realize that your study has giant truckloads of biases in it? Just to point out one obvious threat to validity, Nocturne is from Australia, I am from Canada, and you are conducting your study from California. Perhaps Commonwealth citizens have some kind of special prejudices that would skew your results. How meaningful will any of the conclusions you draw be? I hope this is just a high school paper, because no way in hell would a university professor accept something that had such shaky methodology.
Unless, Sinungaling, burrito’s hypothesis relates to the opinions of people who post on internet message boards. We are a unique demographic (in regard to computer skill, education, etc, etc) - perhaps the research has nothing to do with stemcell research and is instead looking at a computer related question. We don’t know, and as we haven’t signed any sort of informed consent, burrito doesn’t have to tell us. Don’t be too hard on the lad.

I you answered a or b to question 2, then please look over stem cell information at

I will tell you this. My mother died of Parkinsons, which is fairly well understood. I feel that stem cell research holds a key to it. It probably colors my thinking.
Yes, I do realize that this poll will ultimately not be very accurate. But the intructor told us to conduct a poll and I don’t have the time or desire to stand out in front of store and bother people. Also, he told us not to conduct more than 15 or 20 polls, but to to one nonetheless. He even pointed out the fact that such a poll could be wildly innaccurate, but still had us do one. Oh well, I’m just doing what I am told.
P.S. This is for a basic technology course, and not meant to be too in depth anyway.
Fair enough, I’ve pulled half-assed assignments before that neither my instructor nor I cared much about. What’s a basic technology course? Is it about how to use computers and stuff, with the poll assignment demonstrating how to use word processors and such?
