Plonked?!

Did I miss something, does plonk, to plonk, plonked not mean that you are being autodumped into someones spam bucket? Or otherwise ignored?

I just got spam with the title plonked …

it’s an old Usenet term which means more or less what you’re thinking. you could add posters to your “kill” file which means you’d never see anything they posted.

Was this message in response to a message you had sent, or were you a random recipient? It may refer to one of the definitions listed for internet slang?

Wow. Haven’t heard that in ages!

If it’s spam, I wonder if they’re trying to evoke a return email from people so they know the address is good?

I’d always had this one down as Please Log Off Now Kook and used as a (slightly) more polite way of saying “Please shut up and go away”.

Random spam, near as I could tell. I remember the term from the days I got the Rialto as individual emails from my dial up ISP … [rec.org.SCA]

Just very odd, but it was nicely different from the various politicos, politico’s widows and random military guys needing help moving money around …

Report it as spam. Don’t open it. Delete it. Basic internet safety measures. Maybe the Chinese/Nigerian sender wasn’t aware that it was an olde term? Maybe they hoped to catch a newbie? As long as you didn’t end up with a virus, life is good.
