Pluming/Leveling Claw footed Tub?

Ok, I have a 300lbs claw footed bathtub and an uneven bathroom floor. At this point leveling the floor is the last option, as it would take a major rehab of the bathroom. So the question is I can buy something that is made for stick under tub legs for leveling or do I have to jerry-rig it? I have to raise one foot about 1/4 inch and another 1/2 inch.

I’ve never seen anything commercial for your problem. I guess if you aren’t interested in leveling your floor, you’re stuck with sticking a piece of 1/4" stock under one leg and 1/2" under the other.

You won’t find anything specifically for legged tubs, but I have done this for other things before. I like to keep things simple. Find a stock of wood that is approximately right thickness to compensate for your floor. Put it under the leg, and trace the outline of the leg where it meets with the wood. Now take a jig saw, band saw, or coping saw and saw the outline so it matches the leg outline. Use sand paper to get an exact thickness and match of the leg outline. You can paint the wood to match the floor or tub leg if neccessary. When you are done, it will hardly be noticeable.

You are better off to level the back legs rather than the front legs if possible, because then it will be that much more hidden.

I was kinda thinking that with the moister in the bathroom that wood would not be the answer. But if I water proof it, I suppose that wood would work. Simple and easy, I like that. Thank you Belt.

What is the best way to lift the tub?

Do I need to disconnect the drainpipe and etc before I try this?

Which legs are you trying to adjust and are they attached to the floor?

No they the legs are bolted to the tub.

Be careful about this, are you sure your floor can take it? If this is an old floor that is so warped that two legs need to be supported up to a half inch, it may not be able to take the weight of a 300 lb tub plus a (random guess) 180 lb person plus water a very small (excuse the pun) whetted area. What is your floor made of?

I have several clawfoot tubs in rentals. Tenants love 'em! two of them have cast legs that are bolted right to the floor. The one that isn’t bolted, I’m going to bolt down when I get the next vacancy. Apparently, a larger person can stand at the very back of the tub and raise the front off it’s legs somewhat. Not good on the plumbing I’m sure.

You still haven’t mentioned which legs need adjusting. Does the tub not drain properly because the back is too low? If the front legs need adjusting, you’ll probably have to rework the plumbing.

The tub puddles to the front right side near the drain. So the back right needs to be ¼ inch and the right front needs ½ inch. The floor is was not leveled properly previously when it was tiled with marble (dumb ass). Sub floor is wood. Basement apartment so it cannot go to far. I am thinking of cutting some treated wood into ¼ inch ½ inch ¾ inch etc to get the height right. Would I be idiot to contemplate using a car jack to hold the tub up? One of the kind that cranks with a screw and slowly expands upward.
