The most obvious example of O’Brian using an historical event is Lord Cochrane and the Speedy for Jack’s action with the Crafuego.
Does the cutting out expedition in LOM have an historical example? The French officers returning to their ship and jumping their horses onto it is great, as is Jack capturing all the ships, and blowing the bollard (sp?) away with a cannon so that he may capture the gunboats.
