Pocket Billiards

What are the chances of pocketing all nine balls on the break in a game of nine ball? How about pocketing all 15 balls on the break in a game of eight ball? Lets say the table is a standard 8 feet by 4 feet and the pockets are 4 inches wide. Has this ever been done before?

Now is the time for all good men to come the the aid of their gazorninplatt.

I believe I saw Bugs Bunny do it once with a rack of 15 balls.

I would imagine that this is not possible in real life, however, since - even if the geometry could be worked out, the force the cue ball would have to hit the rack in order to get the balls to all go into holes would probably be not only more than a man with a cue could deliver, but the tab;e and the balls themselves could handle.

You ever stand behind the rack while someone who ain’t really good at breaking gets under the balls a little bit? Or a strong player hits the rack so hard that you have to duck? I would imagine the force involved for this would send the cue ball at you so fast, it would go through your head.

Humans have plenty of power to move all the balls into pockets, especially in 9-ball, but it would just be an amazingly rare event. I’m certain it has never happened in tournament play.

Earl Strickland probably has the biggest 9-ball break on the tour, and he routinely makes 2 or 3 balls on the break. I’ve seen him make 5 balls a couple of times, and I *think he made six once. I’ve made four balls on the break a couple of times.

One of the reasons it’s extremely unlikely is that the balls interfere with each other, and by the time enough have dropped to give the others a chance, they’re no longer moving.

I do not believe it has ever been done, but I have seen a pro get 5 balls on the break in a game of 9ball. I also have managed to get 4 on a break in 8ball… on a interesting side note I remember watching Ripleys Believe It Or Not on TV, and they were showing how this master at trick shots (sorry I do not recall his name) was teaching his dogs how do do some trick shots using their noses, but what was more interesting was that they showed a home videotape of him practicing a table-to-table trick shot in which he shot the cue ball down the length of the first table, the ball jumps and lands on the second table striking a pack of six balls where each one went into a different pocket at nearly the same time! Many others have routinely done the “6 balls in 6 pockets” trick shot on ONE table… but from one table to the next? I think that was a first.

I would imagine it would require some pretty fancy ‘english’ on the cue to move around enough to make sure all the balls went in the pockets.

Just to be a wiseass…

It could be done on every single break if you just tilt the table toward one corner. I think I saw this done by that great pool player, Benny Hill.

Lets not forget that he was also the first pitcher to strike out three batters with one pitch.

What an athlete. And yet no nomination for “Athlete of the Century” Pshht. Must be fear of a Fuzzy Gray Planet.

I used to rock and roll all night and party every day. Then it was every other day. Now I’m lucky if I can find a half an hour a week in which to get funky.

Okay, did anybody else click on this thread thinking it was going to be about something naughty?

I know I sure didn’t. :o

opus that’s pocket pool you’re thinking of, not pocket billards. Now run along and go play with yourself.

My Jesus fish can beat up your Darwin fish but forgives it instead.

And the first to catch a ball that was hit so hard it went clear around the world. You could tell because the ball had all those stickers on it from other coutnries.
