I did this before about a year ago and got great advice such as This American Life, Radiolab, Freakonomics, The History of the world in 100 objects, Moth, The history of Rome, amoung others. I am near the end of their archives. Any other suggestions, either along these lines or dealing with humor, politics, history, money, science, hell just about anything.

You could try “The Pod Delusion”. It’s a UK podcast, made up of separate reports like a news show. Each report is an interview, a discussion piece, or sometimes just polemic. It’s skeptical / science based, with a focus on science, politics, religion and current affairs.
The political stuff is a little UK/Europe centric, but it should be accessible to anyone.
