Has anyone usedPODS? Can you give me a recommendation or anything for them?
Our mortgage broker needs to be murdered a little bit and our family is going to be homeless for a week (leaving rented into purchased home); we’ll stay with the in-laws, but our stuff needs to be stored. It seems more cost-effective to have a PODS container dropped here and stored in their warehouse, then dropped right at our new place; than to rent a truck, take things to storage, rent a truck to take it to the house.
I’ve been helping a friend pack one up. The thing is huge. They will be doing the “store off-site until we find a place” thing. (Moving from outside Detroit back to Chicago.)
Cost effectiveness aside, the physical toll of essentially doing two moves can’t be discounted, either for yourself or your belongings. One pack-in, one pack-out will be much easier on both. Plus, there is only a small step up into the POD. No hoisting of large items to the truckbed or using a sometimes not very stable lift. You just walk right in.
My friend has her POD for another week. That gives her time to move smaller things into it as she has time and can wait for her husband (and me) to make the trip back to Michigan to help with the large, heavy items. There is no rush to get a truck packed, unloaded and back to the terminal before the deadline. In your case you would have to deal with truck rental twice.
Sorry, can’t help you move. My “commute” is a killer as it is.
