Poecilonym?

I checked the thesaurus to see if there’s a synonym for the word synonym. In the two sections containing the word, listed next to synonym was poecilonym, which is a word that I don’t know. I looked in a couple of dictionaries and searched the internet and couldn’t find any sort of definition of poecilonym. What is it?

Poecilonym: “one of various names for the same thing.”
Poecilonymic: “having a variety of names.”

Source: OED

That’s “Oxford English Dictionary.”

Thanks. I knew the OED would have it, but I don’t have that, unfortunately.
