Back in my younger active days, we always heard rumors about the govt dusting the MJ fields to poison us hippies. Of course we were horrified but it didn’t change our behavoir. We just didnt really believe it. Now years later I wonder what would happend if the poppy and MJ fields were dusted with some slow poison. Then the news would be broadcast warning of the poison. I would think the fringe users would find other avenues for getting high. and the only ones stupid enough to take the change that the next hit would kill them would continue. taking the chance of getting some bad stuff. the result would be that the hardcore users would be removed from the demand side. the demand reduction should bring the price/profit down and drive out those willing to take the chance of importing it. on and on and on… until the producers find a more profitable crop.
It would require a lot of propaganda ie, news cast showing the dead/dying, body count…
If by work you mean destroy the war on drugs, then yes. In such a case whoever poisoned the stuff would probably get at least life in prison. All they would have to do is show some kids dying.

Yes this is drastic or "wild bill"ess but I have not seen anything else that is effective. And I have seen a lot of lives destroyed by our current plan of swapping thumbs.

I used the term herbicide to spray on the plants to show that it isnt a crime to spray a chemical on a plant in a foreign country. If the herbicide didnt actually kill the plant but made it lethal then it would be the answer.
yes, mj is not fatal but if it was made fatal then it would be a different issue. it could be broadcast " the foreign country has dusted some of their mj fields with a poison. If you inhale that poison you will die " now you either don’t get the message, dont believe the message, or think that the chance of you getting bad weed is worth the risk, or you are just to stupid/stoned/wired to care.
I don’t think that MJ is that bad, but if I was targeting cocaine then I would target all drugs. but thats another issue. The point here is the war on drugs and to what extent are we willing to wage it.
yes there would be casualties. I submit that the total number would be less than are projected with the current DARE plan.
It fits the bill of terrorism better than most things. Killing people over their choice of recreational activities is not going to go over well with the public.
First big problem is this, a poison batch of drugs would be spotted before distribution could be started in earnest.
I challenge you to come up with ANYTHING that could be dusted on a drug plant crop that wouldn’t be noticed by the growers/harvesters and was still leathal to the users.
Pot is the only crop that this is even remotely feasible with. Any crop that is processed into a finished drug would be almost impossible to effectively use a end user poison by dusting the field.
If it was tried, I suggest the guys out harvesting would be keeling over first.
Unbelievable. Recreational use of marijuana has been de-criminalized in such countries as Denmark, Sweden, and Austria. Do you propose we murder law-abiding citizens in these countries, or do you have some method I don’t know about to insure that this poison only makes it’s way to whatever country you hail from? Maybe if you ask the growers nicely, they will ship it only where you tell them to.
Okay, I’m posting from work here so I can’t do any google searches on marijuana et al., and I’ve never smoked pot so I certainly wasn’t smoking any in the 80’s, but as I recall it went something like this:
They sprayed periquat on marijuana fields in mexico.
If the dope got harvested before it soaked in, they could wash it off and it would still be okay to smoke.
If they didn’t harvest it in time, either the plants would die, or it would make you sick as a dog to smoke it.
Anybody have any info on that, and how it affected marijuana usage in the US in the 80’s? As I recall, it didn’t work, but they still did it.
This is a great idea. But why stop with pot, cocaine and heroin? A little methyl alcohol in the beer sure would help take care of that pesky drunk-driving problem. And maybe someone can devise a bullet that kills somebody who is about to commit a crime using a gun. And I can see a use for cars that blow up if the get more than 10 miles an hour over the speed limit.

Well, without getting into the whole issue of whether or not the mighty USA has to follow the laws of other countries when in those countries, let me point out that most marijuana consumed in the US is produced in the US.
Secondly, a fairly large percentage (I don’t have exact stats) is produced indoors. Most of the rest is on small, isolated, well-hidden plots, not big obvious fields that you could easily send crop dusters over.
As for the ethics of your plan…I’m not even going to get into it…

First you would need the permission of the country where the fields are located. Then you would have to find the fields (not that easy a task). And if you can find the fields, why not just destroy the plants? Gee!!! Ain’t that what they are already doing?
And then on the domestic front…what about all the pot fields in the U.S.? Will it be another case of the U.S. telling other countries “do as we say and not as we do” or will you be poisoning the environment in your own backyard too?
