A poke pole is a pole for fishing in tide pools. I’ve looked, but I’m having trouble finding out exactly how they work. Apparently there’s a long bamboo pole with a straightened wire hanger on the end. The tip of the wire has a loop in it. Some fishing line is involved. Put a squid on the line, poke it into a hole in the rocks, and pull out the fish or eel or crab.
What’s the actual mechanism for catching the prey? Just a regular old fishing hook? Why not just use a regular fishing pole with a line and hook tied to the end?
