Pokemon Go Now Available for iPhone and Droid

Oh, another thing. If you are inside and run the game while charging your phone, the GPS inaccuracies can work to your favor. My phone is sitting on my desk, happily plugged in for charging while the game is running. My dude meanders about almost constantly. The amount of distance you get isn’t super high, but it is non-zero. I just hatched an Abra, which is very cute, and looks like it is sleeping.

:slight_smile: As another Ingress player, (fellow Smurf) I’m glad this game is more public. My wife almost called the cops when she was at work alone and saw cars drive up and sit in the parking lot. Ends up the place was a portal, but at the time we had never heard of Ingress.

Hopefully when cops are stopping people for wandering parks and graveyards after dark (which most groups I’ve played with have pacts against, highly recommended) they will have heard of the game and won’t be dragging them to the station.

Yesterday I was stopped at a stop sign – 12orSo year old boy on a bike blew through the stop sign on the wrong side of the road without ever looking up from his phone – and ran right into me.

No damage, no injuries, lots of apology. He told me he was playing the new Pokemon game. I tried it when I got home. Not my kind of game; uninstalled it. Looking forward to reading lots of interesting accident reports.

Ouch, that’s a scary proposition.

Although how well can you do moving on a bike? I found a hack to getting distance/hatching my eggs: The wonder of I4 traffic. I move so slowly that the game thinks I’m walking, but traffic isn’t moving fast enough for me to pose any danger to anything since I move in 4 foot increments.

There’s a park near my house which is something good, either a Pokestop or a Gym. It was packed all weekend with people tromping around looking at their phones. People are parking all over the local streets and streaming past my house to get there. Everyone seems to know to go the the Rocketship.

My phone is too old and too cheap (Android 4.1.1 - Go requires 4.4 or higher - and my cheap ass Tracfone can’t upgrade the OS) or else I’d be out there too.

Saw a silhouette of a Dragonite near my office, but I couldn’t figure out how to walk the right way towards it before it disappeared. I guarantee that has to be one of the more “rare” ones, given that Dragonite was one of the strongest non-legendary Pokemon in the original Generation 1 games.

Dang it.

Question: How many Pokemon are there to catch in the game? Is it the current 721? Or just the original Kanto 151? I’ve heard both.

The original 150. Which is good, because I don’t know any of the newer ones.

It’s only First Generation. They need SOME content to hold back for expansions/patches. They’re supposedly working on a better battle system and on being able to trade pokemon between players right now.

And apparently certain Pokemon are reserved for special events and can never be encountered randomly. The three legendary birds, Ditto, and possibly Mew and MewTwo.

iOS update available now.
Apparently the permissions thing was a mistake and they are correcting it.

This website might be helpful Pokémon Go Database: Pokémon Go Beginner's Guide it has sections on CP, movesets, pokedex, locations etc.

Right on, thanks! I’ll check it out as soon as my boss leaves for the day. Ah, screw it, I’ll check it out now.

So I was really excited to get an Onxy today except when I got him they are wildly unddrpowered compared to how hard they are to find and capture. I used like a dozen pokeballs and had 6 breakouts on top of using 6 raspberries and it was only 135 CP.

I haven’t found any good listing of the rare Pokemon in the Denver area and where to find them. Hopefully they at least make my top 6 once I capture them.

Okay, Pokemon masters, I made a second account, because of the privacy/permissions problem, which has now been patched, so the need for the second account is no longer there…

I’m trying to figure out which account to keep and which to delete, thing is, each account has Pokemon I think are rare

Original account; level 7, “rare” Pokemon are;
Meowth, Goldeen, Tauros, and 9 5k eggs
Second account, level 5, “rare” Pokemon are;
Pikachu, Gastly, Shellder

Which to keep? If it wasn’t for the Meowth, I’d probably switch to my second account full time, hmm when trading is implemented, wonder if I can trade between my accounts

Is there any value in keeping duplicates? Or should they just be transferred to collect the candy?

Keep the second account for the sole reason because Ghastlys are cool.

Nope, kill em for candy. As long as they’re more powerful, unless they’re your favorite kind, you don’t need dupes. OR if your dupe is a higher power than the rest of your crew, keep it then.

I think keeping one extra of your strongest/favorites for backups or stacking in gyms is a good strategy, two at the most

As the “preparedness” crowd is fond of saying… “Two is one, one is none”

Do you need 3+ caterpillar/worm/small bird/rodent/etc, probably not

You’ll quickly find that you’ll really start to dislike those low level basic Pokemon, I totally ignore the caterpillars and worms.

Unless you’re starving for Pokeballs, you shouldn’t ignore anything.

Catching the little buggers is the best way of getting EXP and leveling yourself up. I get super pissed every time I see a goddamn rat, but I still catch them in the hopes of being stronger and seeing stronger pokemon

And getting precious Stardust so you can upgrade dudes once you find high-tier pokemons.
