Polar ice-cap melting on Mars! Democrats blame Bush environmental policy

I thought it was a joke post, and a pretty good one. I see no piont in taking it seriously.

Kim Stanley Robinson?

It was just a joke. Lighten up a bit, OK.
Maybe it was posted on the wrong side of the boards, I will tak responsbility for that. Lessons learned, it won’t happen again.
There was no malice intended to either the left or right, D or R.
The point I would be trying to make, if that was my intent, would be to express how environmental the democrats are v the republicans, good or bad.
Also, how Bush seems to be getting all kinds of blame thrown at him, deservedly or otherwise. Things like the war with Iraq, Afghanistan, 9/11 intellegence, the economy, the fact that democrats do not have a candidate that can feasibly challenge him in '04, etc. So why not get him for the shrinking of the polar ice on Mars?

This is not too accurate a summary of the state of the current science. Scientists understand well how and why the addition of CO2 and other “greenhouse gases” to the atmosphere causes warming. (And, they have very good data on the rise of these concentrations and isotopic techniques by which they can attribute a lot of it to the burning of fossil fuels [land use changes have also had effects…but I don’t think they can see this with the isotope techniques]).

Most scientists in the field now believe that the warming that we have seen in the last 30 years or so is likely to be due mainly to manmade causes. And, there is even more confidence that there will be future warming due to anthrogenic (man-made)effects. Even some of the most ardent coal-industry-funded skeptics like Patrick Michaels now predict such warming…although he argues that most of the warming will be on the lower side of the bounds the IPCC has said (2.5-10 F by 2100) and restricted to a few regions and that it will be “no big deal”.

Hell, even British Petroleum believes that anthrogenic climate change is a serious problem and that precautions (such as the Kyoto Accords) need to be taken.

See the Alaskan Glaciers thread for the most recent discussion of this.

You might be interested to learn that these 3 sentences put you much closer to the camp of Sierra Club et al. than to the Bush Administration’s “we must cut down the forests in order to save them!” policy.

In the interest of making sure that I keep up the trend of avoiding an argument, I will point out the liberals are all in “left-field” and that only conservatives are in their “right” minds.

Okay, overused bad puns aside, is there really any time an administration can do anything right? No matter what people always seem to complain. And that’s about all I see is complaining. Just leave them to do their jobs, or run for office and do something about it.

Hey, speaking of running for office and getting off topic since this was a joke post anyway, is it true that Gary Coleman’s gonna run against Arnold and that Gallagher is considering jumping in the race? I mean, come on, seriously.

By the way, I consider myself moderate.

What happened to poor Phobos and Deimos?

Well, duh. Obviously it was supposed to be a joke. The problem was:

A. It wasn’t particularly funny.
B. It was posted in the wrong forum.
C. It was just a pointless, cheap partisan shot without any substance.

You Bush apologists aren’t helping your cause when all you can come up with are glib banalities. If you think he’s getting a bad rap, make your case - here’s your chance.

Drugmaker: I wise move on your part would be to click the “Report this post to a moderator” link at the bottom right of your OP and ask a mod to move your thread to IMHO or the BBQ Pit. It’s a simple thing to do, and you will find many a light-hearted soul in both of those places. Maybe even the same souls you encountered here, but in a mood more akin to the intent of your thread.
