Couldn’t help myself.
Who else can we blame?
Some on the far left will, somehow, blame this on human kind in some way.
And given the mindset of the people who put Leo Holt on the bench in Chicago, I am guessing a lot of those people will be from Chicago or somewhere else in IL.
Do you plan to answer your own question (Who else can we blame)? Can you provide a cite for your claim that polar ice caps are melting on mars? That Democrats are blaming Bush? Past examples of “some” on the “far left” blaming similar events on conservative politicians? Who are the people who put Leo Holt on the bench in Chicago? What is their mindset? Please answer these questions so I can formulate a proper reply to your post.
I am sorry, that was meant to be a joke. As far as I know, no one-democrat or otherwise, is crticizing anyone over this. But I say, give it time. Someone will.
If you are interested on reading about the melting ice-cap on Mars

Boy, you sure know how to stick it to those wacky tree-hugging enviro-freaks! All that silly talk about global warming, its just the kind of thing that interferes with a good business climate! Thank heavens we have an administration the recognizes the need to strike the correct balance between making money and breathing.
The ice packs are melting on Mars
And people are dying from SARS
…While President Bush
…Just sits on his tush
And dreams of carousing in bars.
That’s beautiful, december.
My God, december has discovered scansion! Hallelujah! And after only four years!
This seems to be a seasonal rule and in no way new. The Marsian Glaciers grow appr the same size each season. In no way or form does this relate to earth and our fear of global warming. Doesnt seem to be a problem so there is no one to blame for something that isnt a problem in the first time.
Kinda like global warming.
Well maybe Bush can blame it on George Tenet.
I heard from some conservatives that Clinton is responsible for the shrinking ice caps on Mars due to the well-known interplanetary heating effects of blowjobs.
When Republicans are in office and the Martian ice caps are in an expansion phase, then the Republicans are responsible. When Democrats are in office, and the ice caps are in an expansion phase, then the previous Republican administration is responsible.
However, when the Martian ice caps start shrinking, it’s always the Democrats’ fault, regardless of who’s in office.
It’s interesting how some on the far right never seem to want to debate the actual issues. These people would just rather throw out things like “leftie loony” or “Saddam lover” rather than talk about flaws in the current Republican administration policies. They even go so far as to avoid talking about real environmental concerns by starting threads about the Martian ice caps.
It was just an off-handed comment. Democrats tend to be more environmental than Republicans (who did create the EPA)
Moving on.
I think that environmental arguments tend to get a little, I dunno, selfish. Just what/who are we trying to save? The planet? Ourselves? The other critters on it?
The planet will survive the human race and all it can do to it.
But will we survive ourselves? (oh I hate it when I start sounding new-age!)
We try to stamp out forest fires caused by lightning. That is a natural occurying event. In fact, letting the fire burn itself out is a good thing for the soil. Bad for humans though. And if we manage to save a bird or two at the cost of a few barges delivering goods down a river, then that is par for the course.
I saw a program on the weather channel a while back that discussed global warming and how the hot summers we are having are all part of a cycle.
Saw something similar on Discovery as well. I know it is proper ettiquette to provide links, so I will search for them.
And it always happens someone gets into my face about humans polluting the atmosphere, killing the planet, killing babies and how I am responsible for a large chunk of it because I smoke. (The fact that I do not drive. That I ride a bicycle and/or take public transportation everywhere I go matters not.) Then they turn and get into there gaudy-more-vehicle-than-any-person-can-need-10-gallons-to-the-mile-tank they call a family vehicle and flip their nose up at me.
The self-righteous will speak.
As far as I am concerned, if you live in a city that has public transportation and you drive your car to work or don’t carpool or drive an SUV, you are exempt from entering any debate on global warming or the environment as a whole. Left or right or whatever.
There is a community of scientists who believe that the current trend of global warming is all part of a normal global climate change. There are others who say that yes, it’s a natural cycle, but the amount of polluntants in the air have * accelerated * that cycle, and still others who say that it’s all man-made.
As to what’s the definate cause, the jury’s still out for me, but I will say that no one in their right mind could think that unrestricted dumping of pollutants in the air is a Good Thing.
Atmospheric carbon dioxide has definitely (and logically) been increasing dramatically since the Industrial Revolution. Even if something similar to this happens cyclically (which I doubt, but I don’t have any definitive evidence–only logic based on what happens when we burn fossil fuels), we’re definitely speeding up the cycle.
Carbon dioxide is definitely a greenhouse gas. It traps heat in the atmosphere that would normally be re-radiated. This isn’t speculation, unless pretty much everything we know about chemistry and physics is wrong.
More heat trapped in the atmosphere will change the global climate.
A few people with advanced degrees (I hate to call them scientists) can find explanations that somehow avoid all of these facts (I’ve never seen one, so I can’t really debunk them; I’d be interested to see how they argue away the facts, actually). That does not mean that there’s contention between scientists over whether this is happening.

This looks to me like a debate in search of a topic. If you just want to flame Democrats for being too critical of the Prez for just any old thing, why not post this again in IMHO or the Pit?
I see you have only 15 posts so far, drugmaker. Perhaps a little more lurking before you jump in would be a good idea. Great Debates is usually (though, sadly, not always) a place for discussion on matters of fact.
From your OP I can’t tell whether you want a dabeate on the relative merits of Democrat vs Republican opinions on environmental policy, or perhaps on whether people from Chicago (or elsewhere in Illinois) are more sensitive or angry than others with respect to environmental issues. Or is your intent to expose the fact that Democrat opinions are all from “the far left.”
Perhaps you should think about this and try to tighten up your approach shot a little.
As far as I am concerned, if you live in a city that has public transportation and you drive your car to work or don’t carpool or drive an SUV, you are exempt from entering any debate on global warming or the environment as a whole.
It depends.
If we’re talking about someone in NYC, sure. Probably, anyway.
My city has public transportation. The buses run once an hour. It would take me literally 2 hours to get from my school to my house (2 miles, tops) if I rode the bus home from school because of the way the bus routes are set up. It’s just not practical. Walking is possible, at least one way anyway (round trip would be rough), but I have to carry books and it’d take me an hour.
So I fire up my van and make the 10 minute drive to school every day. Good thing I’m not a tree hugger or I’d feel guilty
Meanwhile at the Fox News Network…
Weatherman:"As you can see(*pointing to area surrounding Washington state), we have a cold front moving into the pacific northwest from Canada so you might wanna reschedule that barbeque for next weekend.
Also we will be seeing increased flooding in the southwest, especially Texas as well as some possible tornadoes in that area which is unusual and no doubt brought upon us by God who is angry that Bill Clinton has a higher approval rating than Ronald Reagan.
If we do not see a signifigant rise in irrational liberal bashing in the next few weeks coupled with much blaming of Bill Clinton for everything we can think of then you can expect to see various plagues befalling east coast this weekend.
Back to you Brit!
Perhaps the ice caps are melting because Mars has no moon to stablize it’s wobble and thus wobbles all over the place as it rotates around the sun. (from 0 to 90 degrees)
Ya know, the right-wingers here on SDMB keep griping about the “liberal bias” here, and I really want to give them a chance to show their stuff, but then they just keep disappointing me…
