Police chase ends right in front of me.

So thishappened on my way to work.

I was headed down Magnolia, saw a cop coming the opposite way with lights and sirens, pulled off to the side. But then saw the white care pull out a side street and drive the opposite way as the cop (same direction as me). The cop pulled a U-turn quickly and followed him as like 10 more cops filed after from the same side street. I stated making my way again so I could get to work. Then heard a BOOM. I considered the possibility that it was a gunshot, but as I got closer, I saw he had wrecked into the truck as you can see in the picture I linked to. I had to rat race around in the alleys to get away from the traffic that was piling up, but there was guns drawn, fire trucks and ambulances and helicopters on the way as I finally got free.

My wife just sent me the news link. I never actually saw a dead perp, thankfully.
Anyone have any similar stories?

Several years ago, I was working overnight at a hotel at US Highway 80 and Interstate 95. My boss was very nice, and let me bring the baby to work with me - otherwise, childcare costs would have forced me to resign. And the big kids were allowed to come in if they wanted. (The lobby was locked during all except the final hour of my usual shift, and guests were served at the side window, so a fussy baby or a napping child didn’t create an unprofessional atmosphere for the guests.)

One night, past midnight, the baby and the older daughter were sound asleep when suddenly, there were blue lights everywhere. At least a dozen sets of blue lights. My husband was a deputy in the next county, and I called him, trying to find out what was happening, while moving the girls back into a more secure area of the office. When my husband answered the phone, I just said “There are FAT cops* running through the ditch out front. Find out what’s going on. Now.”

Turns out that a suspect had collided with an occupied police car in the next town over, and then fled the scene. Cops chased him through 3 jurisdictions before he wrecked underneath the interstate overpass a hundred yards from the hotel. He then took off on foot, only to be tased in our back parking lot. Lots of charges - DUI, driving without a license, hit and run, eluding, etc.

Best part of the whole story: earlier in the evening, I had rented a room to some travelers who were very concerned about noise. I put them at the back of the property, reassuring them that it was very quiet. Naturally, Mr. Suspect was apprehended about 20 feet from their door. Sigh.

*Not intended as an insult. My own husband is a big guy, and the ongoing joke was that, if you see a fat cop running, something serious is going down.
