You’ve seen it many times on TV. The police have a suspect in the interview room and they are sure he is guilty. And they tell him if he confesses it will be good for him and he can get a good deal, but if he gets an attorney they can’t talk to him any more and he will blow the deal.
Any truth to this at all? Would he not get the same deal, maybe a better one, with an attorney?
I have heard that if you get arrested for a serious crime, guilty or not, you shouldn’t tell the police ANYTHING. Not even where you went for lunch that day. Because what if you mis-remembered and said you went to the Burger King at 1 pm but it was really the McDonalds at 2 pm? Or it was the Burger King but for some reason you are not on the security camera. Later on the witness stand they are going to ask why you lied.
